Job summary

VolkerHighways in the South West is seeking an experienced Supervisor to support lighting installation and maintenance across the Somerset region. You will lead day-to-day operations on contracts, coordinate directly employed teams and subcontract labour, and ensure safe, timely, and high‑quality delivery in line with contract requirements.

The role requires five years of electrical and technical site experience, strong planning skills, and solid understanding of cost/value principles.

Qualifications

• Supervisory experience and ability to manage teams and onsite activities effectively.
• Understanding of cost, value and basic commercial principles.
• Knowledge of programming and planning processes for coordinating works efficiently.
• Good computer literacy to operate digital systems and reporting tools.
• Sufficient electrical and technical knowledge for overseeing installation/maintenance.
• Familiarity with Highways Sector Scheme and HEA requirements beneficial for compliance.
• Effective management techniques to support team performance.
• Confidence, proactivity and initiative in a fast-paced site environment.
• Discretion and confidentiality when handling operational or personnel information.
• Around five years of electrical/technical site experience preferred.
• Strong written and spoken English for clear communication and reporting.

Responsibilities

• Lead safe operational delivery across sites with risk assessments and company procedures.
• Use Confirm system for client and contractor coordination.
• Apply cost management and support QS reporting.
• Plan and programme works with clients and onsite teams.
• Manage subcontractors and temporary staff for quality and productivity.
• Carry out monthly H&S and environmental inspections and inductions.
• Monitor work quality, review drawings, and raise anomalies promptly.
• Oversee use of plant, transport and materials for efficiency.
• Maintain records to support commercial processes.
• Support staff development and contract growth.
