Job summary

VolkerHighways is seeking a Supervisory professional to lead lighting installation and maintenance works across the Somerset region, coordinating directly employed teams and subcontract labour for safe and efficient delivery.

You will ensure contracts are completed to programme and standards, maintain cost controls and support commercial reporting while developing staff and processes within a South West project environment.

Qualifications

• Must have supervisory experience overseeing teams and onsite activities.
• Good understanding of cost, value and basic commercial principles.
• Knowledge of programming and planning processes to coordinate works efficiently.
• Strong computer literacy to operate digital systems and reporting tools.
• Sufficient electrical and technical knowledge for overseeing installation and maintenance.
• Understanding of Highways Sector Scheme and HEA requirements is beneficial.
• Effective management techniques to support team performance and problem-solving.
• Confident, proactive and able to use initiative.
• Clear written and spoken English for reporting and communication.

Responsibilities

• Lead safe operational delivery across allocated sites with risk assessments and company procedures.
• Use Confirm system for client and contractor coordination.
• Apply strong cost management and support QS reporting.
• Plan and programme works with clients and on-site teams; contribute to weekly plans.
• Manage subcontractors and temporary staff; monitor quality and productivity.
• Carry out monthly H&S and environmental inspections; deliver toolbox talks.
• Monitor work quality; review drawings; raise anomalies promptly.
• Oversee use of plant, transport and materials; ensure compliant registers.
• Maintain records of works, delays and extra activities for commercial processes.
• Support staff development and contribute to contract growth.
