Job summary

SLR is a global leader in sustainability solutions, based in Bristol, offering a chance for a graduate or junior lighting designer to support our team in delivering creative, compliant lighting solutions.

You will receive full training in lighting design, layouts and calculations, with mentorship and opportunities for professional development. The role offers flexible hybrid working and a supportive environment.

Qualifications

• Graduate in lighting design, architecture, engineering, environmental design or related field.
• Basic understanding of lighting principles and relevant standards (e.g. CIBSE, ILP).
• Familiarity with CAD and/or lighting software is desirable.
• Strong attention to detail and good written communication.
• Willingness to develop and learn in a small team environment.
• A driving licence would be advantageous due to site travel.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to lighting impact assessments (external obtrusive light, ecology, dark skies).
• Conduct site visits, surveys and data collection.
• Help coordinate with architects, engineers and planning teams.
• Maintain project records and assist with general project administration.

SLR is a global leader in sustainability solutions, working with clients to help make sustainability happen, within a collaborative, people-first culture.

We are a small, collaborative lighting design and environmental assessment team within SLR, based in Bristol and working across a wide range of projects including commercial, residential, public realm, and infrastructure schemes.

We now have an exciting opportunity for a motivated graduate or junior professional to support our designers in delivering creative, compliant, and technically robust lighting solutions.

The role

You will receive full training to assist in the preparation of lighting designs, layouts, and calculations using industry software and to support the production of reports, drawings, and technical documentation for planning and design stages, as well as:

• Contribute to lighting impact assessments (e.g. external obtrusive light, ecology, dark skies)
• Conduct site visits, surveys, and data collection
• Help coordinate with architects, engineers, and planning teams
• Maintain project records and assist with general project administration

About you

We are looking for a graduate in lighting design, architecture, engineering, environmental design, or a related field, with:

• Basic understanding of lighting principles and relevant standards/guidance (e.g. CIBSE, ILP)
• Familiarity with CAD and/or lighting software (desirable but not essential)
• Strong attention to detail and good written communication skills
• Good organisational skills
• Willingness to develop and learn in a small team environment
• A driving licence would be advantageous, as there is some site travel involved in the role.
