Marine Resources has an exciting opportunity for a Lifting Operations Manager for a full-time, permanent position based in Itchenor.
This hands-on leadership role within the operational team is responsible for the efficient, safe, and customer-focused management of the 7-day-a-week indoor/outdoor boat lift & launch and Marina Boatyard Operations. The role extends beyond boatyard management, requiring a dynamic leader to oversee all aspects of site operations, safety, compliance, and machinery maintenance, ensuring seamless service delivery.
As this is a start-up environment, we seek a proactive, hands-on individual experienced in all elements of boat lifting and movements, capable of building, developing, and managing both a team and operations from the ground up. You will provide leadership, training, and development to the team while maintaining high standards in safety, operational efficiency, customer service, and site presentation. Key responsibilities include planning boat movements and implementing new Lift & Launch propositions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operations & Safety
- Implement site safety measures aligned with risk assessments and compliance documentation.
- Ensure full compliance with all Health & Safety regulations, statutory requirements, and industry standards, including LOLER and environmental legislation.
- Plan and oversee boat movements and storage, optimizing space within the marina and boatyard.
- Develop and integrate new Lift & Launch propositions into daily operations.
- Ensure all lifting, launching, and mast handling operations are performed safely and efficiently.
- Conduct safety inspections, emergency drills, and maintain fire safety standards.
- Maintain high site standards, including cleanliness and upkeep.
- Machinery, Equipment & Compliance
- Take ownership of all machinery and equipment, ensuring proper use, maintenance, and legal compliance.
- Oversee and manage lifting equipment, tractors, and mechanical assets for safe and efficient operation.
- Coordinate maintenance schedules and compliance testing, including LOLER inspections.
- Keep detailed records of equipment servicing and compliance.
- Team Management & Leadership
- Recruit, train, and lead a high-performing team fostering a culture of safety and customer service.
- Manage staffing schedules for peak and off-peak periods.
- Conduct briefings, toolbox talks, and performance reviews.
- Implement staff training programs to develop technical skills and safety compliance.
- Customer Service & Site Presentation
- Be a visible leader ensuring friendly, professional, and efficient customer service.
- Respond promptly to customer inquiries and feedback.
- Oversee site cleanliness and functionality of facilities.
- Maintain records of boat movements and operational tasks.
- Maintenance & Contractor Management
- Manage external contractors for repairs and infrastructure improvements.
- Ensure external work meets safety and operational standards.
- Oversee minor maintenance projects and log defects for repairs.
- General & Administrative Duties
- Maintain vessel records and berth checks.
- Act as a keyholder and out-of-hours emergency contact.
- Review and improve operational processes.
- Support marketing and PR strategies to grow the business.
Required Experience & Skills:
- At least four years in management, with two in marina, yard, or machinery operations.
- Strong leadership and team management skills.
- Extensive knowledge of Health & Safety regulations, including LOLER.
- Experience with site machinery and marine equipment, with technical knowledge preferred.
- Excellent organizational, problem-solving, and customer service skills.
- Practical, hands-on approach to operations.
