Job summary

BCP Council is seeking a Leisure Assistant for a casual contract at Ashdown Leisure Centre. Starting salary is £14.36 per hour, with progression within the pay band as you grow in the role. The job focuses on lifeguarding, customer service, and programme delivery in a busy leisure facility.

You will work to a defined schedule, provide first aid when needed, and help run activities for children and holiday programmes. The role supports a welcoming, safe environment for all visitors.

Qualifications

• First Aid certification.
• Knowledge of health and safety protocols within a leisure environment and swimming pool.
• Experience of the leisure industry and of leading sporting activities.
• Ability to communicate in a clear and polite manner with customers and colleagues.
• Ability to work to defined schedules, and reprioritise activities in response to urgent needs.

Responsibilities

• Supervise the pool area and provide a lifeguard service in line with Royal Lifesaving Society guidance to ensure safety and enjoyment of the public.
• Set up and take down sporting equipment in a safe and timely manner so equipment is available for use.
• Carry out regular checks of facility cleanliness and participate in cleaning to ensure a hygienic environment for customers.
• Inspect facilities and equipment according to the daily schedule, escalating health and safety issues to the appropriate person.
• Act as first aider to customers or staff at the leisure site for medical emergencies.
• Provide basic non-specialist coaching following predetermined programmes, including at children’s parties and holiday activity sessions.
• Provide general assistance and information to customers, including reception duties, to ensure a positive experience.
