Job summary

City of Wolverhampton Council is seeking an experienced Section Leader - Licensing to join the Resident Services team on a temporary basis with immediate start. The role involves day-to-day management of the licensing service, guiding a dedicated team, and ensuring high-quality, customer-focused delivery on site at Wolverhampton.

Key responsibilities include leading the team, reporting to the Service Manager, ensuring legal compliance, and presenting to Licensing Committee.

Qualifications

• Degree-level qualification or substantial management experience.
• Significant experience in a management or leadership role.
• Strong people management, supervisory, and performance management skills.
• Experience leading teams in a fast-paced operational environment.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills with strong organisation.

Responsibilities

• Lead, manage, and develop licensing team to meet service objectives.
• Support Service Manager in delivery and continuous improvement of Licensing Service.
• Oversee workloads, resources and staff performance for an efficient service.
• Oversee processing of licensing and registration applications with legal compliance.
• Prepare reports, briefing notes, and Licensing Committee papers.
• Present reports at Licensing Committee meetings and stakeholder forums.
• Monitor performance and implement improvements.
• Ensure compliance with legislation, regulations and best practice.
