Sussex Police is seeking a part-time Licensing Officer for Brighton to manage licensing compliance across pubs, bars, and events under the Licensing Act 2003. You will liaise with the Licensing Authority, present cases, and contribute to enforcement strategy within the Licensing Unit, based at Brighton’s John Street station.

The role requires licensing knowledge, strong written and verbal skills, and the ability to work 18 hours weekly (Wed 4hrs, Thu/Fri 7hrs).

Qualificações

• Educated to A Level or equivalent experience or recent and relevant experience within a Licensing environment.
• Excellent communications skills to liaise, negotiate and present recommendations to stakeholders and senior management.
• Over time, achieve a Level 4 Police Alcohol Licensing Officers (PALO) qualification.
• Must have experience working with key stakeholders to negotiate and influence decisions.
• High standard of written communication for prosecution and case files.
• Experience gathering information from diverse sources for informed recommendations and court evidence.
• Excellent time management and organisational skills with deadlines.
• Good computer and administration skills (Word, Excel, Outlook and other systems).
• Confident with presenting and public speaking to Public Committees and court.
• Self-motivated with initiative and ability to work with minimal supervision.
• Knowledge of Licensing legislation desirable or ability to interpret it for implementation.
• Ability to work within a team and willingness to travel within Sussex.

Responsabilidades

• Develop joint procedures with the Licensing Authority to shape strategy for licensing applications and enforcement.
• Advise supervision on positions on matters affecting Licensing legislation and city events.
• Represent Sussex Police at joint-agency meetings and hearings, acting as expert witness when required.
• Conduct in-person visits to licensed venues for licence inspections.
• Monitor licensing incidents within the National Intelligence Model and identify operational issues.
• Liaise with Licensing Officers, Supervisors, and Local Authority to deliver compliant licensing outcomes.
• Prepare documentation for licensing enforcement, including Premises Licence Reviews and appeals.
• Support and educate managers and staff to ensure premises operate safely and legally.
• Manage all functions of the Licensing Unit and assist colleagues.
• Perform other duties appropriate to the grade as required.
