Job description

External candidates to be eligible to apply for this post you must be a Rochdale Resident who lives within the municipal boundaries of the Borough of Rochdale (e.g. your household must pay council tax to Rochdale council)

Salary: £25,583 - £25,989

This is a temporary role covering maternity. The hours are 20.25 hours per week.

About the role

As Library and Information Assistant, you will welcome and enrol new members and introduce them to the fantastic services across Rochdale Borough Libraries, and make our spaces vibrant and inviting.

You will use our Library Management system to help customers borrow, return and renew items, and process bibliographical searches and requests. You will assist in stock maintenance and displays.

You will direct customers to the right services for support, and you will support customers in the use of library computers, as well as printing, photocopying and scanning facilities.

You will provide cover across all libraries, including opening and closing, and play a key role in promoting and supporting events and activities that bring our community together.

The post holder may be required to work on Saturdays and out-of-hours. They may also be required to work at other locations across the borough.

This position is maternity cover, temporary until the post-holder returns.

About you

You are passionate about delivering high-quality library and customer services that support community wellbeing, learning, cultural engagement and reading for pleasure.

You are friendly, approachable and willing to support customers of a wide range of ages and backgrounds with their queries.

You have a proactive approach, are a good communicator with good time management and have excellent customer service skills.

You have good ICT skills, specifically the ability to work with the internet and Microsoft Office applications and common software; skills of assisting people using digital devices and software.
