Job summary

Essex County Council’s libraries team is seeking a part-time Customer Services Assistant in Saffron Walden. The role focuses on welcoming customers, helping with book circulation, and signposting to Library and Council services.

It requires enthusiasm for working with a diverse community and delivering great customer experiences. You will assist in story sessions with children when required, support with IT systems, and contribute to service improvements.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated ability to use IT systems or willingness to learn.
• Customer service experience in any setting.
• Confidently signposting customers to library services and other council services.

Responsibilities

• Assist with book circulation and issuing in the library.
• Signpost customers to services and provide information helpfully.
• Support stock circulation: sorting, shelving, and handling reservations.
• Assist with data looked at to improve service and customer experience.
• Help unlock/lock up and act as a keyholder where needed.
• Support Saturday service delivery and participate in promotional activities.
