Job description

Unsworth Academy has an exciting opportunity for a passionate and enthusiastic Librarian with great ambition to manage, develop, and promote the school library.

Unsworth Academy is a thriving, oversubscribed, co-educational, and non-selective high school in Bury. The school is on an inspiring journey of improvement, having been judged 'Good' in all areas during its last inspection in November 2019.

Currently, the school is three years into its 'Good to Outstanding' journey, marked by highlights such as excellent GCSE outcomes and a focus on digitalisation. All students and staff utilize school iPads both in and out of lessons.

Shaw Education Trust comprises a diverse group of schools, including primary, secondary, and special schools, working together to improve young people's lives in our communities. Sponsored by Shaw Trust, a charity dedicated to transforming lives, the Trust provides education to children of all ages and abilities. Our staff are committed to ensuring every child has the opportunity to succeed, regardless of their starting point.

In our secondary schools, we emphasize innovative curriculum design to ensure breadth and ambition for all students, regardless of their backgrounds or barriers. We seek to engage students through bold, exciting, and purposeful curricula that lead to meaningful outcomes. Initiatives include extending the school day for enrichment and developing vocational and technical pathways supported by employers and universities to foster work readiness, leading to T Levels and apprenticeships.

We value collaboration and are co-constructing an aligned EBacc curriculum across subjects to create a world-class, knowledge-rich curriculum that raises standards and reduces planning workload, allowing staff to focus more on relationships and delivery.

Shaw Education Trust offers various employee benefits, including:

  • Generous holiday entitlement from day one (37 days, rising to 39 after 5 years, including Bank Holidays)
  • Electric Car Scheme
  • Medicash Health & Wellbeing Plan
  • Discounts through the Support for Teachers Scheme
  • Free Eye Tests
  • Cycle to Work Scheme
  • Opportunities for professional growth through the Institute of Education and other initiatives

We are committed to a rewarding employment experience, providing access to professional development, leadership support, and opportunities to collaborate across schools. Our staff benefit from a range of courses, including NPQ qualifications, guidance from experienced leaders, and placement projects.

Working hours: Full Time, 25 hours per week (11am – 4pm), 38 weeks term time only, plus 1 week (39 weeks total)

Contract: Maternity leave up to 12 months

Unsworth Academy is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. All staff and volunteers are expected to share this commitment and will undergo appropriate vetting, including an online check and DBS clearance. All shortlisted candidates will undergo online searches as part of safer recruitment.

We reserve the right to appoint before the closing date as applications are reviewed on an ongoing basis. Early applications are encouraged.

We are an Equal Opportunities employer. CVs alone will not be accepted, and successful candidates will undergo a fully enhanced DBS check and other employment checks.
