Job summary

Biffa is seeking a Driver Trainer (LGV/HGV) at the Staines Depot to ensure all drivers are trained to a high standard and compliant with statutory, legal and operational requirements.

You will lead inductions, provide ongoing mode training, maintain records, support post-incident reassessments, analyse performance data, and drive continuous improvement across training delivery and driver safety. This role requires a flexible schedule including early starts and weekends.

Qualifications

• Minimum 3 years of HGV driving experience, including multiple HGV modes.
• Proven expertise in conducting driver assessments.
• Valid Class 2 HGV Licence and Digital Tachograph.
• Up-to-date CPC Training.
• Basic understanding of HGV mechanics and maintenance.
• Proficient in driver checks and reporting procedures.
• Knowledge of Working Time Directive and related legislation.
• Flexible with work hours, including early starts, late finishes, night shifts, and weekends.

Responsibilities

• Recruitment and onboarding support with pre-employment assessments and a 5-day Driver Induction.
• Ongoing driver training including refresher and mode-specific training.
• Maintain driver competence records using Express Class.
• Provide reassessment and retraining after incidents.
• Analyze driving data with management to identify support needs.
• Conduct behavioural interventions for drivers needing improvement.
• Stay updated on vehicle changes and share relevant information with drivers.
• Pursue continuous improvement of training delivery and development.

A quick look at the role

To support the safe and effective running of day-to-day operations of a Depot by ensuring all drivers are trained to a high standard. Ensuring that statutory, legal and operational requirements for safe, competent drivers are met and maintained through monitoring driver practices and behaviour through induction and vocational training. And where appropriate take efficient action to ensure our driver community remains safe and compliant.

Your core responsibilities

• Recruitment and Onboarding: Support the hiring process with pre-employment assessments and deliver a comprehensive 5-day Driver Induction aligned with standards and legislation.
• Ongoing Driver Training: Provide regular refresher and additional mode training to enhance driver skills and customer experience.
• Record Management: Maintain accurate driver competence and training records using Express Class.
• Post-Incident Support: Offer reassessment and retraining for drivers following incidents.
• Driving Performance Reviews: Regularly analyse driving data with management to identify and address support needs.
• Behavioural Interventions: Conduct targeted support for drivers requiring improvements in actions or behaviours.
• Vehicle Updates Communication: Stay updated on vehicle technical changes and share relevant information with drivers.
• Continuous Improvement and Development: Enhance training delivery, optimise driver learning, and pursue personal professional development.
