Job summary

Mid and East Antrim Borough Council in Ballymena is seeking an LGV Driver to support essential services across the local community. You will operate a range of operational vehicles, ensuring routes are completed efficiently and safely to a high standard of service.

The role offers £15.82 per hour, 37 hours per week, Monday to Friday, with a 7:30–3:30 schedule and Friday until 12:30. The initial term is 3 months with potential extension; closing date 4 November 2026 at 12 noon.

Qualifications

• Valid Category C Driving Licence with a maximum of 6 penalty points and must not have been disqualified within the past 5 years.
• Valid Driver CPC (CPC) card.
• Minimum of two years’ continuous LGV driving experience.
• Must successfully pass a driving assessment.
• Penalty points on license must be declared with relevant code and will be assessed for relevance to duties.

Responsibilities

• Drive vehicles trained for in duties including refuse collection, recycling, street cleansing and other operational service vehicles.
• Ensure bulk items, street sweepings, refuse and recycling are deposited at the waste transfer station or designated facility; use weighbridge when required.
• Provide general driving support to remove refuse from households, industrial and commercial premises for disposal.
• Ensure safety, supervise and transport the crew, and handle public queries while following operational procedures.

LGV Drivers - Mid and East Antrim Borough Council | Ballymena Join Mid and East Antrim Borough Council in Ballymena as an LGV Driver and support the delivery of essential services across the local community. Working as part of a busy operational team, you will play a key role in ensuring routes are completed efficiently and safely while maintaining a high standard of service.

About the role:

• £15.82 per hour
• 37 hours per week, Monday to Friday
• Monday to Thursday 7.30am to 3.30 pm and Friday 7.30am to 12.30pm
  
• Ongoing for 3 months, with possible extension
• Please note, closing date for applications is Wednesday 4th November 2026 at 12 noon.

What you'll be doing in this role:

• Drive any vehicles the postholder is trained in, including but not limited to those in connection with refuse collection, recycling and disposal vehicles, street cleansing services and other operational service vehicles.
• Ensure all bulk items, street sweepings, refuse and recycling is deposited at the Councils waste transfer station or designated waste disposal facility utilising the weighbridge when required
• Provide general driving support to Operational Services to ensure that all refuse is removed from household, industrial and commercial premises such as houses, shops, schools, business premises for appropriate disposal.
• Take responsibility for the safety, supervision and transportation of the crew, ensuring crew members comply with operational procedures whilst carrying out their duties and dealing with queries from members of the public

What you'll need for this role:

• Valid Category C Driving Licence, with a maximum of 6 penalty points and must not have been disqualified within the past 5 years.
• Valid Driver Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) card.
• A minimum of two years’ continuous LGV driving experience.
• Must successfully pass a driving assessment.
• Please Note - Any penalty points active on the driving license must be declared along with the relevant code, these will then be assessed for relevance to the duties of the post.
