Job summary

Milk Education is recruiting Level 4 Teaching Assistants / HLTA to work across partner schools in Manchester on day-to-day, short-term, long-term or temp-to-perm placements, starting September 2026. You’ll gain experience across welcoming schools while choosing when and where you work.

You’ll support teachers, lead lessons, and provide targeted learning for individuals and groups, including SEND support, within a flexible, safeguarding-focused environment.

Qualifications

  • Level 4 TA/HLTA qualification or equivalent desirable.
  • Experience as TA/HLTA or in a similar education-based role.
  • Experience leading lessons or learning activities independently.
  • Strong knowledge of the primary curriculum and effective learning strategies.
  • Experience supporting pupils with SEND is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Support teachers in delivering engaging learning across the curriculum.
  • Lead lessons and activities in the absence of the class teacher where required.
  • Plan and deliver targeted activities for individuals and small groups.
  • Support pupils' academic, social and emotional development.
  • Provide targeted support for pupils with SEND and adapt learning accordingly.
  • Assist with behaviour management and promote positive attitudes to learning.
  • Help create a positive, safe, and inclusive classroom environment.
  • Build strong, professional relationships with pupils and staff.
  • Support assessment and monitor pupil progress; provide feedback to teachers.
  • Collaborate with teachers, SENCOs, and support staff to meet needs.
  • Assist with classroom organisation and development of learning resources.

Your main responsibilities will include:
  • Supporting teachers in delivering engaging and effective learning across the curriculum.

  • Assisting with classroom organisation, preparation and the development of learning resources.
  • Upholding safeguarding procedures and promoting the welfare of all children and young people.
Requirements or Skills:
  • Level 4 Teaching Assistant, HLTA qualification or an equivalent relevant qualification is desirable.
  • Previous experience working as a Teaching Assistant, HLTA or within a similar education-based role.
  • Experience leading lessons or learning activities independently.
  • Strong knowledge of the primary curriculum and effective learning strategies.
  • Experience supporting pupils with SEND is desirable.
  • Confident classroom and behaviour management skills.
  • A genuine passion for supporting children’s learning, development and wellbeing.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and organisational skills.
  • A flexible, adaptable and reliable approach to working across different school environments.
  • The ability to quickly build positive relationships with pupils and school staff.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.

This role is paid within the advertised pay scale. Your starting rate will be determined by your qualifications, relevant experience, and the requirements of the assignment.
