Job summary

Gwenfro CP School is seeking a Level 2 Teaching Assistant to join our Resource Provision and support pupils with additional learning needs. You will work closely with the class teacher to deliver personalised learning, promote independence and well-being, and help pupils access the curriculum.

Qualifications

  • Experience of supporting children with additional learning needs, including Autism or sensory processing difficulties.

  • Ability to work as part of a team while using your own initiative.

About the Role

28.75 hours per week, 39 weeks per year.

Gwenfro CP School seeks to appoint a caring, committed and enthusiastic Level 2 Teaching Assistant to join our dedicated team and work within one of our Resource Provisions.

This is an exciting and rewarding opportunity for an individual who is passionate about supporting children with additional learning needs and helping them to achieve their full potential. The successful candidate will work closely with the class teacher and wider school team to provide high-quality, individualised support, enabling pupils to access learning, develop their skills, build confidence and become increasingly independent.

Our Resource Provisions provide a nurturing and inclusive environment where pupils are supported according to their individual needs. We are looking for someone who will be committed to creating a positive learning experience and who can build strong, trusting relationships with pupils.

As a Level 2 Teaching Assistant, you will support pupils across a range of activities, adapting tasks and approaches where necessary to ensure that all pupils are able to participate and succeed. You will play an important role in supporting pupils' academic, social, emotional and communication development, while promoting their independence and wellbeing.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide one-to-one and small-group support to pupils with additional learning needs, including Autism, communication difficulties and sensory processing needs.
  • Assist teachers with the delivery of personalised learning activities, adapting approaches to meet individual pupils' needs.
  • Support pupils with both academic and non-academic activities, helping to develop confidence, independence and life skills.
  • Use positive behaviour support strategies to encourage, motivate and engage pupils.
  • Help create and maintain a safe, stimulating, inclusive and nurturing learning environment.
  • Work closely with the class teacher and other school staff to monitor pupils' progress and adapt support strategies as required.
  • Support pupils with sensory regulation activities and help them to develop strategies for managing their individual needs.
  • Encourage positive relationships and promote pupils' social, emotional and communication development.
About You

To be successful in this role, you will be a compassionate, patient and enthusiastic individual with a strong understanding of children's additional learning needs. You will have experience supporting pupils with Autism, communication difficulties, sensory processing needs or other learning difficulties.

You will be committed to helping every child reach their full potential and will have a positive, inclusive approach to supporting pupils within the school environment.

We are looking for someone who is caring, resilient and able to remain calm and consistent when supporting pupils who may present with a range of individual needs. You will be able to work effectively as part of a team, communicate well with colleagues and demonstrate a genuine commitment to inclusive education.

Essential Qualifications and Experience
  • Experience of supporting children with additional learning needs, including Autism and/or sensory processing difficulties.
  • A good understanding of different teaching and learning strategies, particularly those that support pupils with additional needs.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships with pupils, staff and parents/carers.
  • A proactive, patient and empathetic approach to supporting children.
  • The ability to work effectively as part of a team while also using your own initiative.
Desirable
  • Additional training or experience in Autism, sensory processing or communication strategies.
  • Experience of using communication aids, visual supports or other resources to support children’s learning.
  • Knowledge and experience of positive behaviour support and behaviour management strategies.
  • Experience working within a primary school or other educational setting.
