Job summary

Oak Field School in England is seeking a proactive and enthusiastic Teaching Assistant with a strong interest in SEN and Disability. The TA2 role focuses on personalised learning across the school, working in a team to support teaching, learning, assessment, behaviour management and care.

The school offers training in areas such as Makaton, PSHE/RSE, behaviour intervention (NCC Approach) and health tasks as appropriate.

Weare seeking a proactive, enthusiastic, qualifiedand experienced Teaching Assistant with a strong background/interest in thefield of SEN and Disability, ideally with Special School experience. Aparticular interest in supporting the learning of pupils with SLD/ASD who havechallenging behaviours linked to their disability would be an advantage, aswould experience of supporting the learning of children and young people withPMLD. The school would very much welcome applications from graduates with adegree in a relevant field as listed at the bottom of the NCC job description,who have a strong interest in/experience of this sector, and/or who might beconsidering a teaching career. Similarly, we would welcome applications fromstrong candidates who are nearing the endof their NVQ3 course in STL or other qualifications as detailed at the bottomof the job description. Thefocus of a TA2 post at our school is to support personalised learning at alllevels, as part of a team - this includes teaching, learning, assessment, behaviourmanagement, and care; the successful candidate will be expected to be proactivein seeking and developing their own CPD. The school provides training in areassuch as Communication, Makaton, PSHE/RSE, Behaviour and Physical Intervention(we use NCC Approach), Moving andHandling, and Personal and Intimate Care (see appendix) to maximise access tolearning. We also ensure access to multi-disciplinary training in physicalmanagement, and health tasks such as gastrostomy feeds, as appropriate. AlthoughTAs work in a specific class, candidates are appointed to the school, ratherthan to a specific KS, to a particular area of Learning Difficulty, or to aparticular pupil (class placement changes annually, by negotiation), and areexpected to participate actively in the wider life and enrichment activities ofthe school.
