Job summary

The Sky Academy in Taunton is seeking dedicated Teaching Assistants (Level 2) to support students' educational, personal and social development. You will work under teaching staff, providing targeted support to help students access the curriculum and engage in learning.

This role involves one-to-one and small-group work, implementing tailored strategies, supporting classroom delivery, and sometimes covering lessons.

Job Title: Teaching Assistant (Level 2)

Actual Annual Salary: £22,423 - £24,172 Based on hours and working weeks

Full Time Equivalent Salary: £29,812 - £32,138 (CLF Grade C) Based on 37 hours per week, all year round.

Contract Type: 3 positions available: 2 x Permanent and 1 x Fixed Term until 31 August 2027, subject to external funding

Hours: Part-time, 32.5 hours per week, Term Time Only plus INSET days

Additional role info: Working Pattern - Monday to Friday 6.5 hours per day

Provisional Start Date: 30 November 2026 (Subject to completion of pre-employment checks)

We are seeking dedicated and enthusiastic Teaching Assistants (Level 2) to support the educational, personal and social development of students. Working under the guidance of teaching staff and senior leaders, you will provide targeted support to help students access the curriculum, engage fully in their learning and achieve their potential.

This is a rewarding opportunity to play a key role in delivering measurable impact on student attainment as well as their social and emotional wellbeing. The role involves working both one-to-one and with small groups, implementing tailored strategies, supporting classroom delivery, and in some cases covering lessons where appropriate.

You will work collaboratively with teachers, SENCo/INCo and wider staff to monitor progress, adapt support strategies and contribute to high-quality learning experiences. You may also provide specialist support in a particular curriculum area or for students with additional needs, including SEND.

About you:

You will have:

• A strong understanding of classroom roles, safeguarding, and the national curriculum.
• Knowledge of how children learn, including barriers to learning and behaviour management strategies.
• A Level 3 qualification (or equivalent experience) in supporting teaching and learning, alongside good literacy and numeracy skills.
• Experience supporting students individually and in groups, helping to monitor progress and deliver targeted interventions.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to adapt your approach to meet a range of needs.
• The ability to build effective relationships with students, staff, parents and external professionals.
• Experience of planning and delivering learning activities and producing resources to support student progress.
• The ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and contribute to a positive learning environment.
• A commitment to inclusion, equality, and safeguarding, ensuring all students feel supported and able to succeed.

Sky Academy is a special school for young people in years 5-11 who have an EHCP to support their SEMH and SCL needs. Located in Taunton, our catchment of young people comes from thosewho live within a 75-minute drive across Somerset.
