Job summary

Step Teachers is seeking a Level 2 SEND Teaching Assistant to join a school in Manchester on a 12-week contract with a view to permanency, starting in April 2026. You will support pupils with complex needs in KS1/KS2 groups, delivering personalised strategies and sensory support.

Salary is paid weekly through PAYE with exclusive deals and wellbeing services via our pay portal; safeguarding is a priority. Experience with Autism/SLD and strong observation skills are essential.

Qualifications

• At least Level 2 TA qualification; Level 3 welcome but experience matters.
• Minimum two years' experience supporting SEND pupils.
• Confident supporting pupils with Autism, SLD, and communication needs.
• Strong understanding of SEND strategies and differentiated approaches.
• Calm, patient, and resilient when working with complex needs.
• Strong observation, reporting, and record-keeping skills.
• Able to build supportive, consistent relationships with pupils.
• Dedicated to safeguarding and promoting pupil welfare.

Responsibilities

• Support pupils with complex needs including Autism, SLD, and Speech and Language challenges.
• Work within mixed-age KS1 and KS2 groups organised by cognitive ability.
• Assist with daily routines, personalised strategies, and sensory support.
• Contribute to pupil observations, progress notes, and written reports; reinforce learning tasks.
• Deliver small-group and 1:1 activities under teaching staff.
• Build calm, trusting relationships to support engagement and emotional regulation.
• Work with teachers, speech and language teams, and wider SEND staff.
• Uphold safeguarding expectations and prioritise pupil well-being.

Level 2 SEND Teaching Assistant – Full-time 12-week contract with a view to going permanent, starting in April 2026.This school provides a calm, inclusive, and well‑structured learning environment where pupils with complex needs benefit from nurturing adults, predictable routines, and carefully tailored support. Leaders work closely with staff to uphold high expectations, ensuring pupils feel safe, understood, and able to make steady progress. Pupils respond well to patient, consistent approaches that promote emotional security, communication, and learning readiness.

Duties as a Level 2 SEND Teaching Assistant:

• Support pupils with complex needs, including Autism, SLD, and Speech and Language challenges
• Work within mixed‑age KS1 and KS2 groups organised by cognitive ability
• Assist with daily routines, personalised strategies, and sensory support
• Contribute to pupil observations, progress notes, and written reportsReinforce learning tasks through repetition, structured modelling, and scaffolded support
• Deliver small‑group and 1:1 activities under the direction of teaching staff
• Build calm, trusting relationships to support engagement and emotional regulation
• Work collaboratively with teachers, speech and language teams, and wider SEND staff

Ideal Level 2 SEND Teaching Assistant:
