Job summary

Hays Education in the Sefton area is seeking a Level 2 Qualified Teaching Assistant to join a supportive school team. The role offers a mix of full and part-time hours, with opportunities to gain hands-on classroom experience and progress your teaching career.

You will work under the supervision of the class teacher, support learners 1:1 or in small groups, assist with setup and resources, monitor wellbeing, and help with marking and safeguarding procedures.

Qualifications

  • Level 2 qualification as Teaching Assistant.
  • Minimum 20 days' experience working with school-age children in the last 2 years.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.

Responsibilities

  • Liaise with the class teacher on the plan for the day.
  • Help set up the classroom and organise resources.
  • Support pupils on a 1:1 or small group basis and monitor progress.
  • Support pupils who are upset, anxious or needing emotional support.
  • Assist with marking and record keeping.
  • Provide feedback to teachers and parents on pupil progress and behaviour.
  • Follow safeguarding and child protection procedures.
  • Monitor pupils during breaks, lunch times, trips and activities.

Your new role

Teaching Assistants play a crucial role in the learning journey for pupils, offering support to the class teacher where they have groups or individuals in the class who need extra help or a more tailored approach.

Typical day-to-day duties include:

  • Liaising with the class teacher on the plan for the day
  • Helping set up the classroom and organise relevant resources
  • Supporting students on a 1:1 or small group basis once the lesson is underway, ensuring they understand their work and make the relevant progress
  • Supporting pupils who are upset, anxious or struggling emotionally
  • Assist with marking and record keeping
  • Provide feedback to teachers and parents on pupil's progress and behaviour
  • Follow safeguarding and child protection procedures
  • Monitor pupils during break times, lunchtimes, school trips and activities
  • Ensure children remain safe and engaged throughout the school day

What you'll need to succeed

As well as your Level 2 qualification, you will also need a minimum of 20 days' experience working with school-age children in the last 2 years that we can reference. You will be patient and empathetic with good literacy and numeracy skills. You will be an excellent communicator and be able to work in a team to ensure each child gets the support they need to progress.
