Qualifications

Description

We are seeking an experienced L2 Network Support Engineer to join our dynamic team. This is a key role in a fast-paced, customer-centric managed service provider environment. The successful candidate will manage and resolve complex technical issues, conduct regular health checks and audits of our managed service estate to ensure high availability and exceptional service delivery.

We’re expanding our fibre rollout, building on our extensive national network of dark fibre and fixed wireless, operating at the forefront of full-fibre network technology and architecture, including automation, software-defined architecture, and NFV.

Remote working is supported with at least 3 days per week in Manchester HQ as required.

Key Responsibilities
  • Handle inbound customer and partner support queries, faults, and service requests within SLAs
  • Troubleshoot WLAN issues, including access point configuration and RF optimization
  • Resolve LAN switching and routing problems, including performance issues
  • Diagnose and resolve firewall-related issues, including rule configuration, VPN troubleshooting, and security policies
  • Maintain customer firewalls and manage policies, VPNs, and IPS
  • Provide 2nd line support for LAN services and document troubleshooting steps
  • Perform health checks and audits to ensure security compliance
  • Produce outage reports and liaise with internal teams and suppliers
  • Manage access to infrastructure within Data Centres and exchanges
  • Notify customers about maintenance activities
  • Participate in a 24/7 on-call rota
  • Mentor junior engineers and perform other duties as assigned
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
  • 2-3 years in network support, preferably in managed service environments
  • Strong networking fundamentals: TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs, routing, switching
  • Experience with WLAN, firewall administration (preferably Fortinet), and network monitoring tools
  • Customer service orientation and clear communication skills
  • Ability to interpret network diagrams and documentation
  • Certifications such as CCNA, FCA, JNCIA-MistAI, CWNA or equivalent
  • Degree in networking, science, engineering, or related field
  • Experience with vendors like Juniper, Fortinet, Ruckus, Cisco; WAN technologies including DIA, Ethernet WAN, VPNs, SD-WAN, MPLS
