Job summary

GKN Filton is seeking a qualified PFD Operator Level 2 to perform penetrant testing on complex wing components in a dedicated IMF facility. You will work on manual and automatic lines, ensuring right-first-time parts and using SAP to manage workflow while adhering to GKNAF quality procedures and HASAWA requirements.

The role involves flexible shift patterns with a 25% allowance, cross-functional teamwork, and active participation in risk assessments and export-control compliance.

Qualifications

  • EN4179 Level 2 qualification is required as a minimum.
  • Experience with ISO 31000 / ISO 9001 / IAQG frameworks and audits.
  • Effective communicator with IT skills and problem solving.

Responsibilities

  • Record risk and task data in the site risk assessment tool with proper controls.
  • Ensure parts are produced right first time and calibrated equipment is in date.
  • Clear work phases timely using the SAP system and escalate non-conformances.
  • Support audit processes and follow GKNAF quality procedures and HASAWA rules.
  • Attend to health and safety requirements and maintain good housekeeping.
  • Align with Export Control plans and ensure TCP compliance in activities.

Job description

At our GKN Filton site, we specialise in the design and manufacture of large complex structural wing assemblies, detailed metallic components and wing systems for a combination of both civil and military aircraft. We are seeking a qualified level 2 PFD Operator to undertake non-destructive testing & penetrant processing inspection of components to identify surface defects. The successful individual will be required to work on both manual and automated penetrant testing lines as part of a team of up to 16 PFD Operators within our IMF facility and need to be flexible as the role will involve working shifts across both our automatic and manual PFD plants. Day shifts (07:00am - 18:45pm) + 25% Shift Allowance Week 1: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Saturday, Sunday Week 2: Thursday, Friday

How You'll Contribute
  • Accountable for recording value stream tasks within the site Risk Assessment Management tool with the risks being accurately recorded and controls put in place to help reduce the risk
  • Ensure parts are produced on a 'right first time' basis
  • Ensure that any calibrated equipment used is within date
  • Responsible for the timely clearance of work phases using the SAP system
  • Responsible for highlighting any non-conformance to the Process Team Leader
  • Adhering to the requirements of the GKNAF Quality Procedures
  • Accountable for Health & Safety requirements under Section 7 of the HASAWA 1974
  • To hold first party inspection approval (M02 status is subject to obtaining A stamp approval)
  • Performing the tasks, learning, understanding and working to the governing specifications
  • Ensure compliance with all risk assessments and company Environment, Health & Safety Procedures relevant to all work activities. Report all incidents, accidents and near misses as per the company's procedure and implementation of identified corrective actions. Maintain good standards of housekeeping in designated work areas
  • Champion 'Export Control' compliance activities, ensuring adherence to the site 'Technology Control Plan (TCP)', guaranteeing compliance with Export Control Regulations, controls, training and systems
  • Qualified to EN4179 Level 2 (minimum)
  • Knowledge in the use of risk based methods and techniques (ISO 31000) for audit planning and management
  • Demonstrable experience in Practical Problem Solving (PPS) and Route Cause and Corrective Actions (RCCA) Techniques in order to provide effective audit follow up / closure assessments
  • Experience in undertaking Internal Audits against the audit process requirements defined within ISO 19011
  • Demonstrable knowledge of ASENJISQ9100 / ISO 9001 and IAQG SLA Frameworks and experience of Quality Management Systems/Process Approach
  • An effective communicator both written and verbally with experience in MS applications/tools
Desirable
  • Thorough understanding of the content and application of the IAQG / EAQG ISO Standards and IAQG SCMH
  • Experience in the use of the IAQG OASIS database for the input to audit planning
  • Knowledge of Business Process Management and the APQC Process Classification Framework
  • Knowledge of AS13100 and the associated reference materials
