Job summary

GKN Aerospace at Filton site seeks a qualified Level 2 NDT operator to perform penetrant testing and inspection on components, working on manual and automated lines within IMF facility. You will join a team of up to 16 operators, with shifts across both PFD plants.

The role requires flexibility and commitment to safety and quality across the production process. The candidate will contribute to risk management, adhere to quality procedures, and ensure equipment calibration and compliance with SAP

Qualifications

  • Qualified to EN4179 Level 2 (minimum)
  • Knowledge of ISO 31000 risk management for audits
  • Experience with PPS and RCCA techniques for audits
  • Experience performing Internal Audits per ISO 19011
  • Knowledge of IAQG/IAQG ISO standards and IAQG SCMH
  • Effective written and verbal communication
  • Knowledge of IAQG OASIS database
  • Understanding of APQC Process Classification Framework
  • Knowledge of AS13100 and related materials

Responsibilities

  • Record value stream tasks in Risk Assessment Management tool with proper risk controls
  • Aim for right-first-time production
  • Verify calibration dates on equipment
  • Clear work phases using SAP system
  • Flag non-conformances to Process Team Leader
  • Follow GKNAF Quality Procedures
  • Fulfill HASAWA Health & Safety duties
  • Possess first-party inspection approval (M02)
  • Work to governing specifications
  • Comply with risk assessments and EHS procedures; report incidents and maintain housekeeping
  • Support Export Control compliance (TCP)

At our GKN Filton site, we specialise in the design and manufacture of large complex structural wing assemblies, detailed metallic components and wing systems for a combination of both civil and military aircraft.

We are seeking a qualified level 2 PFD Operator to undertake non-destructive testing & penetrant processing inspection of components to identify surface defects.

The successful individual will be required to work on both manual and automated penetrant testing lines as part of a team of up to 16 PFD Operators within our IMF facility and need to be flexible as the role will involve working shifts across both our automatic and manual PFD plants.

Week 2: Thursday, Friday

How You’ll Contribute
  • Accountable for recording value stream tasks within the site Risk Assessment Management tool with the risks being accurately recorded and controls put in place to help reduce the risk
  • Ensure parts are produced on a ‘right first time’ basis
  • Ensure that any calibrated equipment used is within date
  • Responsible for the timely clearance of work phases using the SAP system
  • Responsible for highlighting any non-conformance to the Process Team Leader
  • Adhering to the requirements of the GKNAF Quality Procedures
  • Accountable for Health & Safety requirements under Section 7 of the HASAWA 1974
  • To hold first party inspection approval (M02 status is subject to obtaining A stamp approval)
  • Performing the tasks, learning, understanding and working to the governing specifications
  • Ensure compliance with all risk assessments and company Environment, Health & Safety Procedures relevant to all work activities. Report all incidents, accidents and near misses as per the company’s procedure and implementation of identified corrective actions. Maintain good standards of housekeeping in designated work areas
  • Champion ‘Export Control’ compliance activities, ensuring adherence to the site ‘Technology Control Plan (TCP)’, guaranteeing compliance with Export Control Regulations, controls, training and systems
What You’ll Bring

To help us make a difference, you’ll bring your passion and expertise/talent for what you do along with the following skills, experience, qualification and attributes:

  • Qualified to EN4179 Level 2 (minimum)
  • Knowledge in the use of risk based methods and techniques (ISO 31000) for audit planning and management
  • Demonstrable experience in Practical Problem Solving (PPS) and Route Cause and Corrective Actions (RCCA) Techniques in order to provide effective audit follow up / closure assessments
  • Experience in undertaking Internal Audits against the audit process requirements defined within ISO 19011
  • Demonstrable knowledge of ASENJISQ9100 / ISO 9001 and IAQG SLA Frameworks and experience of Quality Management Systems/Process Approach
  • An effective communicator both written and verbally with experience in MS applications/tools
  • Thorough understanding of the content and application of the IAQG / EAQG ISO Standards and IAQG SCMH
  • Experience in the use of the IAQG OASIS database for the input to audit planning
  • Knowledge of Business Process Management and the APQC Process Classification Framework
  • Knowledge of AS13100 and the associated reference materials
