Job summary

Bolton School is seeking a qualified Level 1 Teaching Assistant to join the Boys’ Junior School on a fixed-term basis for one year. The 25-hour week runs 8.15am–1.15pm, Monday to Friday, during term time. You will support the class teacher, prepare resources, and work with individuals or small groups to promote pupil learning and behaviour.

The successful candidate will have Level 1 Childcare and Education or equivalent, be a strong communicator, and enthusiastic about working with children.

Primary Division Boys’ Junior School (7 - 11 Years)An opportunity has arisen for a qualified Level 1 Teaching Assistant to join the staff at the Boys’ Division Junior School on a fixed term basis, initially for one year, caring for the needs of our pupils alongside the teachers. The hours of work are 25 hours per week, 8.15am until 1.15pm, Monday to Friday, term time only.The successful candidate will be expected to support the class teacher delivering activities in line with the curriculum. The person appointed will assist in the preparation of teaching resources and provide feedback to pupils and the teacher, work with individuals or small groups under the supervision of the teacher, promote good behaviour and be able to communicate effectively to support pupils learning. Key attributes required of the successful candidate include:

  • Level 1 in Childcare and Education or equivalent
  • Experience of planning activities

  • A genuine enthusiasm to work with children
The present Boys’ Junior School teaching staff consists of eleven full-time teachers, four part-time teachers and four teaching assistants. They are supported by the Head, Deputy Head, as well as one full-time and four part-time secretarial and ancillary staff.With some 2,500 pupils, Bolton School is a large, thriving, academically selective day school. It is situated a mile or so from the town centre in a stunning 32 acre campus and is within easy reach of some of the nation’s finest cities and countryside. In Autumn 2021, significant changes were made to the leadership structure of the School Foundation, investing the newly created position of Head of Foundation with overall responsibility. Within the new structure, there are three sections: Girls’ Division, Boys’ Division and Primary Division. A Head of each Division and the Head of Foundation, together with the Clerk and Treasurer and Director of Operational Services, are the Foundation’s Senior Officers; they are directly accountable to the Governors.Two adjoining and similar buildings, now attached by a state-of-the art Sixth Form Centre, house the Boys’ and Girls’ Senior Schools, each of which provides a traditional academic education from the age of 11 years.
