Job Description:

Role purpose

Provide advice and guidance in Property matters to the Homebuy and Property Compliance teams to contribute to the delivery of the council’s objectives and priorities.

To lead by example in modelling and embedding the council’s values and behaviours, working collaboratively with colleagues, partners, and other stakeholders to help build a sustainable highly effective organisation and develop our reputation as a successful council delivering great value for its residents.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare legal documents and provide legal advice in areas such as Right to Buy, Lease extensions, Collective enfranchisement, Licence for alterations, Discount Market Sale, Private Sector Leasing, and routine land acquisitions.
  • Handle creation and discharge of mortgages.
  • Assist other councils or bodies as agreed.
  • Perform any other duties appropriate to the role.
  • Assist lawyers with investigations of property titles and first registration of titles.

Requirements

  • Law degree or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of relevant areas with a willingness to develop expertise.
  • Experience working in a council or housing association is essential.
  • Knowledge of Local Government law or equivalent.
  • Willingness to develop knowledge in Planning, Highways, or Licensing.
