Through our countless volunteer projects, we also help network with the communities around us, too. You can do amazing work here. Work you couldn't do anywhere else. It's up to you to make it happen.

What's the role?
Bloomberg's Legal & Compliance Department plays a critical role in supporting our businesses and operations around the world. We move quickly and thoughtfully to help address a variety of complex legal issues that arise across the Company's various businesses. Our team is made up of talented and hardworking professionals who think creatively and work collaboratively in an open environment to deliver results, drive innovation, and solve difficult problems.
Diversity and inclusion are essential to our success, and we strive to maintain an environment where our employees are empowered to make an impact. We also recognize the value of diversity and inclusion in cultivating a supportive workplace and the importance of giving back to our communities as evidenced by our award-winning pro bono program.

The Core Products / Index team within Bloomberg's Legal & Compliance Department works closely with our business and sales partners to advise on, draft and negotiate contracts for our professional services worldwide. Our colleagues depend on us for our deep product and commercial contract knowledge in order to support them in closing the deal, while protecting our businesses from undue legal risk.

We are seeking a commercial licensing lawyer who will have responsibility for, among other things, developing, drafting, and negotiating customer and partner agreements for a range of transactions focusing on the Bloomberg Indices business line. Bloomberg Indices Services Limited, a subsidiary of Bloomberg, administers, calculates and licenses indices with a global footprint, including the Bloomberg Global Aggregate Bond Index family, one of the most widely used fixed-income index families in the world. The rapidly growing index business at Bloomberg also includes equity, commodity, currency, and crypto indices as well as cutting-edge interest rate indices like the Bloomberg Short-Term Bank Yield Index.

You will provide licensing, technology and commercial legal advice and counsel to internal clients. The person in this role will serve as an essential business partner in shaping business strategy, product development, identifying business risks and defining company policies and procedures. Based at Bloomberg's EMEA headquarters in London, you will collaborate frequently with colleagues and internal clients in an exciting, high-energy work environment.

You'll need to have:

  • Admitted to practice as a solicitor with the Law Society of England and Wales
  • 2-4* years of experience with commercial licensing transactions, either at a top law firm or in-house in the financial or technology sector
  • Experience drafting and negotiating, and advising clients on, challenging and complex licensing transactions
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, with the ability to explain legal issues clearly to business and technology professionals
  • Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple projects and clients
  • Ability to work well under pressure and to provide concise and commercially focused advice
*Please note we use years of experience as a guide but we certainly will consider applications from all candidates who are able to demonstrate the skills necessary for the role.

We'd love to see:
  • Experience with financial indices or index licensing
  • Experience advising in the financial and/or technology sector
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a wide range of other disciplines, often across regions and time zones
  • Interest in identifying and using technology to improve efficiency
  • Strong project management skills
