Job summary

Davies Group in Liverpool seeks an experienced Costs Negotiator to join the Legal department on a permanent full-time basis. You will manage your own caseload from instruction through to settlement, handling costs across Motor, Casualty, Legacy, Marine, Clinical Negligence and Professional Negligence claims.

Role requires 12 months’ minimum experience in costs negotiation, degree/LPC/ALCD, strong client liaison and detailed assessment knowledge. Strong negotiation and IT skills are essential.

Qualifications

• 12 months experience minimum in a similar costs negotiator role, handling own caseload for claimant or defendant.
• Degree and/or LPC and/or ALCD.
• Experience of client liaison, taking instructions and advising verbally and in writing.
• Experience of Detailed Assessment process including Points of Dispute and replies.
• Good telephone negotiation skills.
• Understanding of current cost case law and insurance litigation practice.
• Ability to use own initiative and make decisions.
• Ability to plan and prioritise workloads and stay calm under pressure.
• Excellent listening and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work as part of a team.
• Proficient IT skills in Microsoft packages.

Responsibilities

• Manage own caseload from instruction to settlement across costs for Motor, Casualty, Legacy, Marine, Clinical Negligence and Professional Negligence claims.
• Formulate initial costs strategy and settlement parameters.
• Prepare points of dispute and consider replies; update clients on progress.
• Negotiate settlements of costs by telephone; document strengths/weaknesses of cases.
• Instruct counsel and attend conferences, detailed assessment hearings and mediations, remotely or in person.
• Attend court hearings to conduct own advocacy; ensure compliance with SRA Standards & Regulations.
