William James Recruitment is assisting a leading national law firm in Manchester/Birmingham/Liverpool to hire an experienced Legal Costs Draftsperson or Solicitor. The role supports a busy Costs team with a hybrid working pattern and national coverage.

You will handle a varied caseload, draft costs documentation, and provide strategic advice through litigation, including advocacy at CCMCs and hearings. The firm offers strong training and clear progression opportunities.

Qualifications

• Minimum 3 years’ experience in legal costs litigation.
• Experience acting for both claimant and defendant clients.
• Confident advocate with experience at CCMCs and application hearings.
• Strong drafting skills across all key costs documentation.
• Proven ability to negotiate costs settlements effectively.
• Able to manage and prioritise a busy and varied caseload.
• Excellent attention to detail with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Legal Costs Solicitor – Manchester / Birmingham / Liverpool – Hybrid – Up to £60,000

A leading national law firm is seeking an experienced Legal Costs Draftsperson or Solicitor to join its well-established Costs team, based in Manchester, Birmingham or Liverpool. This is an excellent opportunity to join a highly regarded national practice, handling a varied portfolio of costs matters across commercial litigation, personal injury and other complex, high-value disputes.

As part of the Costs team, you’ll manage your own caseload from instruction through to conclusion, preparing a wide range of costs documentation and providing strategic advice throughout the litigation process. The role also offers regular advocacy opportunities, including CCMCs and application hearings, providing an excellent platform to further develop your technical expertise and advocacy experience within a supportive and collaborative team.

The Role

• Drafting budgets, Bills of Costs, Points of Dispute and Replies
• Attending CCMCs, application hearings and other costs-related advocacy hearings
• Providing strategic advice on budgeting, reserving, recovery and costs dispute resolution
• Negotiating costs settlements with opponents
• Reviewing files and preparing accurate, high-quality costs documentation
• Handling both claimant and defendant costs matters
• Managing matters independently while contributing to the wider national Costs team

The Candidate

• Minimum 3 years’ experience in legal costs litigation
• Experience acting for both claimant and defendant clients

• Proven ability to negotiate costs settlements effectively
• Able to manage and prioritise a busy and varied caseload

• Competitive salary up to £60,000 depending on experience
