Job summary

Denovo Business Intelligence Limited is seeking a SOLAS-qualified Legal Cashier to join our Outsourced Cashroom Services team in the Glasgow area. The role covers daily finance and accounting tasks for law firms, ensuring compliance with the Law Society of Scotland's Accounting Rules.

Working in a hybrid setup with at least two days in the Glasgow HQ and some remote work, you will support month-end and year-end processes, handle client accounts, and liaise with clients to resolve queries.

Qualifications

• SOLAS qualification or equivalent experience.
• Proven experience as a Legal Cashier within the Scottish legal sector.
• In-depth knowledge of the Law Society of Scotland Accounts Rules.
• Excellent numeracy, attention to detail, and organisational skills.
• Strong client communication and IT skills.

Responsibilities

• Ensure compliance with the Law Society of Scotland's Accounting Rules.
• Process daily client and office account receipts and payments.
• Raise or process fee notes from client emails or internal systems.
• Allocate payments to outstanding fees accurately and promptly.
• Process fees for private clients and legal aid including SLAB payments and abatement monitoring.
• Complete bi-annual Accounts Certificates for clients.
• Perform daily bank reconciliations for client and firm accounts.
• Make BACS and CHAPS payments with proper authorisation.
• Email clients to confirm receipt of funds.
• Prepare and submit VAT returns to HMRC.
• Advise clients of daily surplus funds that can be transferred to Firm accounts.
• Manage payment of firm invoices.
• Process payroll for clients.
• Support month-end and year-end processing and reporting.
• Work with clients to resolve queries and provide financial guidance.
• Support onboarding of new clients into Outsourced Cashroom Service.

The Legal Cashier will be responsible for providing outsourced finance and accounting support to a variety of law firms, ensuring compliance with the Law Society of Scotland's Accounting Rules.

• Department: Outsourced Cashroom Services
• Location: Hybrid (Minimum 2 days per week spent at our Glasgow HQ and remote working with occasional on-site client visits) - Full-time remote working will be considered
• Salary: 30 - 35K per annum (depending on experience)

Role Overview

The Legal Cashier will be responsible for providing outsourced finance and accounting support to a variety of law firms, ensuring compliance with the Law Society of Scotland's Accounting Rules. You will manage a range of financial activities, support month-end and year-end tasks, and help ensure seamless day-to-day operations for our clients.

You will be part of a growing, collaborative team that delivers efficient and compliant legal cashiering services across multiple client accounts. This is a role well-suited to only those with existing cashiering experience.

Key Responsibilities

• Ensure compliance with the Law Society of Scotland's Accounting Rules
• Process daily client and office account receipts and payments
• Raise or process fee notes, either from client emails or via our internal systems
• Allocate payments to outstanding fees accurately and promptly
• Process fees for private clients and legal aid cases, including SLAB payments and abatement monitoring
• Complete bi-annual Accounts Certificates on behalf of clients
• Perform daily bank reconciliations for all client and firm accounts
• Make BACS and CHAPS payments from client bank accounts (with appropriate authorisation and documentation)
• Email clients to confirm receipt of funds into their bank accounts
• Prepare and submit VAT returns to HMRC
• Advise clients of daily surplus funds that can be transferred from Client to Firm accounts
• Manage the payment of firm invoices
• Process payroll for clients, ensuring timely and accurate execution
• Support month-end and year-end processing and reporting
• Work directly with clients and their staff to resolve queries and provide financial guidance
• Support the onboarding of new clients into the Outsourced Cashroom Service

• Strong client communication and IT skills

• Experience using Denovo's legal software (highly desirable)
