Job summary

Waltham Forest College is seeking a Lecturer for IT & Digital to deliver high-quality teaching across Digital and IT programmes in East London. The role requires engaging, inclusive lessons and the ability to simplify complex concepts for Level 1 and T Level learners.

You will support students to apply knowledge in real-world contexts and prepare for assessments. The post offers 0.5 FTE with a salary range of £14,873–£23,960 per year, reflecting part-time hours and pro rata conditions.

Job purpose

To deliver high-quality teaching, learning and assessment across Digital and IT programmes, supporting learners to develop the technical, professional and interpersonal skills needed for progression into further study, employment or industry placement. The post holder will contribute to the delivery of vocational and T Level Digital provision, helping learners build confidence in database, full-stack website development, testing, digital security, emerging technologies, industry legislation and the wider business context of IT.

The role requires someone who can make complex digital concepts accessible to learners at different levels, including Level 1 students developing their communication and interpersonal skills, as well as T Level learners preparing for technical assessment and occupational specialism exams. The post holder will support students to apply knowledge practically, work professionally, understand industry expectations, and develop the behaviours required in digital and business environments.

• Ability to plan and deliver interactive, engaging, inclusive and well-structured lessons across Digital and IT programmes, supporting learners with different starting points and preparing them for progression, employment or industry placement.
• Ability to teach technical content in an accessible way
• Confidence in breaking down complex digital concepts into clear, manageable learning activities, particularly for learners who need additional support to build understanding, independence and confidence.
• Full-stack development knowledge
• Good understanding of website and application development, including front-end design, back-end processes, database use, user interaction, testing and improvement of digital products.
• Database and data handling skills
• Ability to support learners in understanding database design, data storage, queries, relationships, validation, data integrity and how databases are used within real digital systems.
• Testing and problem-solving skills
• Knowledge of testing methods used in software and digital product development, including planning tests, carrying out testing, recording results, identifying errors and recommending improvements.
• Digital security awareness
• Understanding of key security principles, risks and protection methods, with the ability to help learners apply these ideas to realistic digital, business and software development scenarios.
• Understanding of emerging technologies and industry change
• Awareness of current and developing technologies in the IT sector, and the ability to help learners understand how these developments affect organisations, users, job roles and future career pathways.
• Knowledge of legislation, regulation and professional responsibilities
• Ability to teach learners about legal, ethical and regulatory issues within the IT industry, including data protection, accessibility, intellectual property, cyber security, professional conduct and safe use of digital systems.
• Ability to link IT to business environments
• Confidence in explaining how digital systems support business needs, including communication, workflow, stakeholder requirements, decision-making, risk, productivity and customer experience.
• Support for interpersonal and employability skills
• Ability to help learners develop communication, teamwork, confidence, resilience, professional behaviour and reflective skills, especially for level 1 learners and those preparing for progression or workplace settings.
• Experience supporting assessment and exam preparation
• Ability to prepare learners for vocational assessments, technical tasks and occupational specialism exams through structured practice, feedback, documentation, practical application and revision support.
• Curriculum and resource development
• Ability to contribute to schemes of work, assessment planning and learning resources that are clear, current, inclusive and aligned with qualification requirements and industry expectations.
