The successful candidate should share our passion for high quality interdisciplinary education and scholarship and be able to contribute to a range of undergraduate and postgraduate teaching in Earth and Environmental Sciences, including lectures and workshops, geoscience practical classes and fieldwork, and supervision of undergraduate and taught postgraduate research and placement projects in both Cardiff University and Cardiff University Kazakhstan. The Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences is a lively and dynamic community that aims to promote sustainability through education, dissemination and direct participation, enabling students and staff to make positive changes to our environmental impact, in particular supporting Cardiff University’s declaration of a Climate Emergency and aim to become carbon neutral (Scopes 1 and 2) by 2030.

The Department is committed to promoting equality, diversity, inclusion and anti-racism including the Athena SWAN charter for promoting inclusive working practices in STEMM subjects in higher education. We particularly welcome female applicants and those from an ethnic minority because they are under-represented within the Department.

We believe this can be achieved through attracting, developing, and retaining a diverse range of staff from many different backgrounds. We therefore welcome applicants from all sections of the community regardless of sex, ethnicity, disability, sexual orientation, trans identity, relationship status, religion or belief, caring responsibilities, or age. We especially welcome and encourage applications from those under-represented groups within the University workforce, such as those who identify as LGBT+, ethnic minorities or those with disabilities. In supporting our employees to achieve a balance between their work and their personal lives, we will also consider proposals for flexible working or job share arrangements.

Applications may be submitted in Welsh, and an application submitted in Welsh will not be treated less favourably than an application submitted in English.

Cardiff University is a signatory to the San Francisco Declaration on Research Assessment (DORA), which means that in hiring and promotion decisions we will evaluate applicants on the quality of their research, not publication metrics or the identity of the journal in which the research is published.
