We are looking for a Research Assistant to join the Moondance Dementia Laboratory team in the School of Medicine, Cardiff University.

In this role, you will
  • Conduct pathological assessment of Alzheimer’s Disease-related tissue sections
  • Analyse state-of-the-art biomedical models
  • Research mechanisms of Alzheimer’s Disease

The successful candidate will be part of a team analysing novel experiments to understand the role of microglia in the brain during Alzheimer’s Disease. We aim to understand how a patient’s genes contribute to the development of disease. The successful candidate need not have specialist knowledge in this area, but it will be advantageous to have technical ability in the processing of, staining of and analysis of tissue sections.

This post is based at the Hadyn Ellis Building, Cathays campus.

This role is eligible to be offered on a blended working basis, meaning that as well as spending time working on campus you can also choose to spend some time working from another location, e.g. your home. This post is full-time (35 hours per week), available from 1 September 2026 and fixed term until 31 August 2027.

Salary: £33,951 - £36,636 per annum (Grade 5). Appointments to roles at Cardiff University are usually made at bottom of scale unless in exceptional circumstances.
