Job summary

Oaklands College seeks a Lecturer in Motor Vehicle to inspire learners across programmes and develop practical and theoretical skills for industry readiness.

You will plan schemes of work, deliver engaging lessons, assess student progress, and provide personalised tutoring while upholding safety, safeguarding and quality standards across teaching and learning.

Qualifications

• Diploma, apprenticeship or substantial industrial experience in Motor Vehicle or related discipline.
• Strong knowledge of vehicle inspection, service and maintenance and associated systems.
• Experience in teaching or assessment in FE, apprenticeships or industry training.
• Commitment to achieving a recognised teaching qualification.

Responsibilities

• Deliver and assess Motor Vehicle programmes, both theory and practical.
• Plan and develop schemes of work, lesson plans and learning resources.
• Monitor learner progress and provide targeted feedback.
• Collaborate with the Engineering and Motor Vehicle department to enhance curriculum and quality.

Your Day to Day Impact

As a Lecturer in Motor Vehicle, you will inspire and support learners across a range of Motor Vehicle programmes, helping them develop both the theoretical understanding and practical skills required for successful careers in industry. Through engaging and inclusive teaching, you will create a positive learning environment where learners are encouraged to achieve their full potential. You will deliver and assess specialist units covering vehicle inspection, service and maintenance, engines, chassis systems, wheels and tyres, braking systems, steering and suspension, electrical systems, health and safety, and workshop practice. Drawing on your technical expertise, you will bring automotive concepts to life through innovative teaching approaches, practical demonstrations, and industry-relevant examples that prepare learners for employment and further study. A key aspect of your role will be planning and developing high-quality schemes of work, lesson plans, and learning resources that support excellent learner outcomes. You will monitor learner progress closely, provide meaningful feedback, set challenging but achievable targets, and offer effective personal tutoring support that enables students to overcome barriers and succeed. Working collaboratively with colleagues across the Engineering and Motor Vehicle department, you will contribute to curriculum development, quality improvement initiatives, and the ongoing enhancement of the learner experience. Your knowledge and insights will help ensure our programmes remain relevant, responsive, and aligned to industry needs. You will also play an important role in maintaining high standards across teaching, learning, and assessment. Ensuring compliance with college policies, safeguarding requirements, health and safety regulations, and quality standards will be central to your responsibilities.

Is This You?

• Qualifications & Experience: A diploma, apprenticeship, or substantial industrial experience in Motor Vehicle, Automotive Engineering, Light Vehicle Maintenance and Repair, or a related discipline.
• Technical Expertise: Strong knowledge of vehicle inspection, service and maintenance, engines, chassis systems, wheels and tyres, braking systems, steering and suspension, electrical systems, health and safety, and workshop practice.
• Teaching & Assessment: Experience of teaching or assessing within Further Education, apprenticeships, industry training, or a willingness to train and develop in this area.
• Professional Development: A recognised teaching qualification, or a commitment to achieving one.
• Communication Skills: Excellent ability to engage, motivate, and inspire learners from a wide range of backgrounds.
• Learner Focus: Patient, empathetic, and committed to helping every learner achieve their potential.
