Job Description

We are a modern, professional university with a dedicated and diverse community. Our vision is to be an excellent, accessible, globally engaged university contributing positively to a thriving northern economy. Our mission is to ensure we use our knowledge and resources to make a positive and decisive difference to people, communities and organisations.

We are a community of around 23,000 students from over 140 countries and 2,200 staff, and our history dates to the founding of Leeds Mechanics Institute in 1824. We are a major organisation in our region, and the University contributes many millions of pounds to the local economy each year.

Our Law School sits in the heart of the great city of Leeds, the most important legal centre outside London and home to over 200 law firms employing more than 10,000 professionals. It is perfectly placed to ensure all our undergraduate, postgraduate, full and part-time students can access the wealth of practical experience and employment opportunities available on our doorstep.

We work closely with employers and partners to help our graduates become ready for work, ready for life and ready to seize all the opportunities that lie ahead. This is strengthened by our commitment to student success, innovation, enterprise, global reach and strong local impact in an increasingly competitive Higher Education environment.

We are investing in our academic provision and wish to appoint an inspiring and enthusiastic individual to join our team as Lecturer. We expect all our staff to contribute to our teaching provision and deliver a high-quality student experience and to publish.

Candidates for the Lecturer role should either hold a UK legal professional qualification with relevant experience or be qualified to doctoral level. The successful candidate will also hold a UK undergraduate law degree or GDL (CPE), and a master’s qualification. The successful candidate will have experience of teaching and learning in an HE or equivalent setting and demonstrate a commitment to research and publication.

We expect all our staff to contribute to our provision and help deliver a high-quality student experience. The successful candidate will be expected to teach at both undergraduate and postgraduate level and should have experience of teaching at least one of the Foundations of Legal Knowledge. Preference will be given to those candidates who can deliver teaching in one or more of the following are

  • Family and Child Law
  • Legal Tech
Closing date Tuesday 20th October 2026 (2359)

Interviews will take place during November and will be conducted online. There will be a process of longlisting. All longlisted applicants will be invited to submit a recorded teaching session, for example a narrated PowerPoint presentation, for shortlisting purposes and before interviews takes place.

If you would like to discuss this post informally contact Melissa Askew, Head of Law (Undergraduate) by email at law@leedsbeckett.ac.uk.

  • With 38 days’ annual leave, generous pension contributions, and a supportive, collegial environment, this role offers the chance to make a significant contribution to the continued success and growth of Leeds Law School.

We welcome applications from all individuals and particularly from women and black and minority ethnic candidates as members of these groups are currently under-represented at this level of post.

Leeds Beckett University is a Disability Confident Employer. Disabled candidates who demonstrate all essential criteria within the Person Specification will be invited to an interview.
