Job summary

Bury College is seeking an enthusiastic Lecturer in Foundation Studies to join its team on a permanent, part-time basis (0.6 FTE). You will deliver high-quality teaching and learning to support learners facing barriers and help them build confidence and independence.

You will plan differentiated programmes, assess learner progress, maintain safeguarding standards and work with colleagues, parents and progression partners to secure positive destinations.

Qualifications

  • Experience of successful teaching within Foundation Studies or related area.
  • Experience of working with young people who have significant barriers to learning.
  • Knowledge of Preparing for Adulthood agenda.
  • Experience of using inclusive and challenging teaching strategies.
  • Ability to support and mentor disengaged young people and respond to challenging needs.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver high-quality, inclusive teaching across Foundation Studies programmes.
  • Plan and deliver differentiated programmes to support learner progress.
  • Inspire learners and monitor attendance, retention and achievement.
  • Develop schemes of work, lesson plans and ILPs.

Job Introduction

We are seeking an enthusiastic and committed Lecturer in Foundation Studies to join our team on a permanent, part-time (0.6 FTE) basis.

This is an opportunity to make a real difference to learners who may face significant barriers, supporting them to develop their confidence, independence, skills and aspirations and progress towards positive destinations.

About the role

You will deliver high-quality, inclusive and engaging teaching, learning and assessment across Foundation Studies programmes, adapting your approach to meet individual learner needs.

  • Plan and deliver flexible, differentiated programmes that support learner progress and achievement.
  • Inspire and motivate learners, including those who may be disengaged or require additional support.
  • Support learners to make positive choices and plan effectively for their future.
  • Maintain a strong focus on learner journeys and positive destinations, including progression to further study, employment and apprenticeships.
  • Develop effective schemes of work, lesson plans and Individual Learning Plans (ILPs).
  • Use high-quality assessment and feedback to monitor and improve learner progress.
  • Monitor attendance, retention and achievement and take appropriate action where required.
  • Support learners through Personal Tutor responsibilities and contribute to their wider study programme and personal development.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues, parents, external agencies and progression providers.
  • Contribute to curriculum development, quality improvement and team activities.
  • Use appropriate digital and curriculum resources to enhance learning.
  • Maintain high standards of safeguarding, health and safety and learner support.
About you

You will have experience of successful teaching within Foundation Studies or a related area, together with experience of working with young people who have significant barriers to learning.

You will also have:

  • Experience of supporting learners towards positive destinations, including employment.
  • Experience of differentiated target-setting and recording learner progress.
  • Knowledge of the Preparing for Adulthood agenda.
  • Experience of using inclusive and challenging teaching strategies.
  • The ability to support and mentor disengaged young people and respond effectively to challenging needs.
  • Knowledge of ILPs, identifying learner support needs and overcoming barriers to learning.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills, including the ability to work effectively with parents and other professionals.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding and its importance within an FE environment.
  • A relevant degree or equivalent qualification.
  • A full teaching qualification or professional recognition in Learning and Skills, or a willingness to work towards one.
  • QTS/QTLS, or a willingness to work towards this.
