Job summary

Activate Learning is seeking a Foundation Sport and Public Services Teacher to join the Lifeskills faculty at Reading College. You will deliver foundation level sessions to 16–19 learners, including careers, wellness and digital topics, plus vocational pathways.

The post is permanent, part-time (18.5 hours/week, 0.5 FTE) based at Reading College. Ideally Tue–Thu, but flexible for the right candidate, with induction and ongoing professional development provided.

Qualifications

• Experience teaching in FE or similar setting is an advantage.
• Ability to work with learners facing barriers to education.
• A genuine interest in developing young people.

Responsibilities

• Teach 16–19 learners foundation level including careers, wellness and digital sessions.
• Deliver vocational pathway sessions as part of Lifeskills.
• Support learners to transition back into education and unlock potential.

About the role: Foundation Sport and Public Service Tutor

We are now looking for enthusiastic and inspiring foundation sport and public service teacher to join our Lifeskills faculty based in at our Reading College campus. The Lifeskills team work to support learners who face barriers to education, including learners with special educational needs, as well as those learners who need support with the transition back into education and/or building their skills and knowledge in preparation for their continued educational journey.

You’ll be teaching 16-19 learners a range of subjects at foundation level, including careers, wellness and digital sessions together with various vocational pathway sessions.

This post provides an excellent opportunity for a teacher with passion and drive who is committed to enabling our students to unlock their potential and switch on to the power of learning.

This is a permanent, part-time position working 18.5 hours per week (0.5 FTE) based at Reading College. Ideally these would be on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, but could be flexible for the right candidate.

What do you need to be successful as an GCSE English and Foundation Teacher at Activate Learning?

We are looking for people who can act as role models for our students and ensure that they leave us with not just their professional qualifications, but the attributes required to progress in the world of work. A genuine interest in working with and developing young people is a requirement.

Previous teaching experience in the FE sector would be an advantage, but it is not a requirement. As long as you have the qualifications or experience to teach on our courses and demonstrate the attributes to be an inspirational teacher, we can provide you with the necessary training, development and support to equip you to teach in the FE sector.

For this role you will need the following:

• A teaching qualification is desirable, but not required
• You must have experience working with young people, though this could be in any coaching/mentoring/training context
• Experience in sport or public services would be highly desirable.
