Job summary

Hugh Baird College is seeking a Lecturer in Carpentry & Joinery to join the Construction Department from September 2026. The post is a full-time permanent role at Hugh Baird College - Main Campus, with a developing curriculum area aimed at shaping provision and inspiring the next generation of skilled tradespeople.

The role involves teaching across courses, running effective assessment and feedback, and upholding QA standards.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of a relevant Level 3 vocational qualification is required.
  • Track record of successful teaching across levels, up to level 3.
  • Recent industry-related experience relevant to construction teaching.
  • Detailed knowledge of course subject matter and examination/assessment requirements.
  • Understanding of value added and use of progress/performance measures.
  • Experience developing external partnerships to enrich teaching and learning.
  • Ability to inspire, motivate and raise learner aspirations.

Responsibilities

  • Teach a range of Carpentry & Joinery courses as assigned.
  • Provide effective feedback and assessment to monitor progress.
  • Maintain standards of QA and manage course administration as needed.
  • Contribute to curriculum development and innovative implementation.
  • Maintain a professional, motivating learning environment with effective behaviour management.
  • Continuously develop teaching skills for student outcomes.

Due to continued growth within our Construction Department, we are looking to appoint Full& Part Time Lecturer's in Carpentry & Joinery to join us from September 2026.

Key Responsibilities
  • Teach a range of courses as assigned, ensuring that every student receives the guidance they need to succeed.
  • Implement effective feedback and assessment systems to monitor learning progress and adapt teaching methods accordingly.
  • Uphold the standards of our Quality Assurance framework.
    Manage course administration and organisation as needed.
  • Contribute to innovative curriculum development and implementation.
  • Maintain a professional and motivating learning environment, applying effective behaviour management practices.
  • Continuously develop your teaching skills for the benefit of student outcomes.
Essential Criteria
  • Possess a minimum of a relevant Level 3 vocational qualification
  • Track record of successful teaching experience across a range of levels, including up to level 3
  • Recent industry-related experience relevant to the academic discipline
  • Detailed knowledge of relevant course subject matter and examination and assessment requirements
  • Understanding of value added and the use of progress performance measures
  • Experience in developing and maintaining external partnerships to enrich teaching and learning.
  • Ability to inspire, motivate and raise the aspirations of learners through high-quality teaching
