As a Lecturer in Manufacturing Engineering at our Slough & Langley College campus, you will join our Ofsted-rated 'Good' Colleges Group, delivering the City & Guilds 4515 Technical Certificate to Level 3 Engineering Fitter and Level 3 Mechatronics apprentices. This is a temporary role covering every Friday from 8:00am to 4:00pm, and we are looking for someone who can hit the ground running.
You will help learners develop the theoretical knowledge and practical manufacturing competence required to succeed in their apprenticeship and prepare for Gateway and End Point Assessment (EPA). You will plan and deliver engaging theoretical and practical lessons for dedicated first year apprenticeship cohorts, covering specific units including:
You will also maintain student morale, engagement and track learning progress using college systems. Working within our engineering workshops, you will promote and maintain high standards of health and safety while supervising the safe use of lathes, milling machines, pillar drills, grinding equipment, hand and power tools, TIG welding equipment and electrical testing equipment.
You will use formative assessment to monitor learners' practical competence, identify gaps in knowledge and understanding, provide timely feedback, and support apprentices to develop the skills and confidence required to achieve their qualification. You will also challenge and stretch high performing learners, contributing to the delivery of high-quality technical education.
We are looking for someone who holds an HNC (Level 4/5) or above specifically in Manufacturing Engineering (essential), together with significant industrial manufacturing experience - focused on manufacturing processes rather than pure mechanical or electrical engineering - and current knowledge of modern engineering practices. A teaching qualification such as a PGCE, Cert Ed, or Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training, together with assessor or IQA qualifications, or direct experience of delivering the City & Guilds 4515 Technical Certificate or Level 3 Mechatronics and Engineering Fitter standards, would be highly advantageous.
