Job summary

The South Hampshire College Group (SHCG) is seeking Learning Support Assistants to join Southampton College on a term-time basis. Roles involve 30 hours per week (and 24 hours per week) with pay of £24,521 per annum pro rata.

This position focuses on one-to-one and small group support to help students participate fully in learning activities. Applicants should have GCSEs in English and Maths and experience in education or supportive roles.

Qualifications

  • Experience working with young people in education or support settings.
  • Ability to support individuals to achieve their goals.
  • Strong organisational and communication skills.
  • Ability to build positive relationships with students and staff.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver one-to-one and small group support, in and out of the classroom, with teaching and learning support colleagues.
  • Support students in line with their needs and EHCPs.
  • Assist students to participate in learning activities on an equal basis with peers.
  • Support teaching staff in maintaining a positive, inclusive learning environment.
  • Assist with student-related administration and updating learning support plans.

We are seeking to appoint passionate, dedicated, and skilled Learning Support Assistants to join our team at Southampton College on a term-time only basis (37 weeks per year). This is on a part time basis (30 hours per week and 24 hours per week).

Duties
  • Deliver one-to-one and small group support, both in and out of the classroom, working closely with teaching and learning support colleagues
  • Support students in line with their individual needs and/or Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs)
  • Assist students to fully participate in learning activities on an equal basis with their peers
  • Support teaching staff in maintaining a positive, inclusive, and productive learning environment
  • Assist with student-related administration, including updating individual learning support plans
  • Ensure support provided is effective in meeting student needs and contributes to positive outcomes and progression
  • Contribute to the development of the Learning Support team by attending meetings and training
  • Safeguard and promote the welfare of young people and vulnerable adults
  • Support students in the use of SEN specialist equipment where required
  • Maintain accurate records and complete administrative tasks relating to students with additional support needs
Skills And Experience
  • Experience of working with young people in an education or support setting (or the potential to develop into the role)
  • Experience supporting individuals to achieve their goals
  • Strong organisational and communication skills
  • Ability to build positive working relationships with students and staff
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications
Qualifications
  • A minimum of GCSE Grade 4/C in English and Maths (or equivalent)
Desirable
  • Level 2 NVQ in Supporting Teaching and Learning (or equivalent)
  • Experience supporting students with SEND
  • Understanding of safeguarding and professional boundaries
