  • Location: Kirkby Lonsdale

  • Start date: Immediately

  • Duration: Long-term temporary position

  • Students: Pupils with autism and additional needs

  • School: Specialist SEN school

  • Department: SEND

As a Learning Support Assistant, you will work closely with teaching staff and the school's specialist SEND team to provide tailored support to pupils with a range of additional needs.

The role will involve developing positive relationships with pupils and providing consistent, patient and compassionate support throughout the school day. You may provide one-to‑one and small-group support, helping pupils with their learning, communication, emotional regulation, personal development and engagement.

Working within a specialist SEN setting, you will have the opportunity to gain valuable experience supporting pupils with a range of needs, including autism, communication difficulties, behavioural needs and other additional learning needs.

Previous experience working in education is not essential. We particularly welcome applications from candidates with experience in support work, care, residential settings, youth work or working with young people, as these skills are highly transferable to supporting pupils with additional needs.

The successful candidate will be patient, resilient and confident in building trusting relationships with young people. You will have a genuine passion for helping children overcome barriers and reach their full potential.

  • Be able to remain calm and consistent when supporting pupils who may experience challenges with communication, behaviour or emotional regulation.

  • Be confident working as part of a wider team.

  • Be committed to safeguarding and supporting the wellbeing of young people.

  • Be willing to learn and develop your skills within a specialist SEN environment.

Previous school or Teaching Assistant experience is not essential, and candidates looking to move from a support‑based role into education are encouraged to apply.
