Job summary

Lyng Primary School in West Bromwich is hiring 2 x SEN Learning Support Assistants (Grade B) to support pupils with SEN in a mainstream setting. Roles cover 32 hours per week, term-time only, with duties across class literacy and numeracy, and targeted interventions under the SENCo guidance.

Applicants should have strong knowledge of child development, safeguarding awareness, and a passion for helping children thrive. DBS checks and safeguarding safeguards apply; closing date 11 October 2026.

Qualifications

• Must have an in-depth knowledge of child development.
• Experience of working with young children in an educational setting.
• Be motivated, passionate and enthusiastic about helping children thrive.
• Communicate effectively with parents and stakeholders.
• Understand Child Protection and Safeguarding requirements.
• Experience delivering interventions and planning/delivering 1:1 and small group activities.
• Work closely with team members to support schedules and systems.
• Help pupils work as independently as possible.
• Supervise students at lunch/break times as directed by SENCo.
• Assist in preparation and organisation of classroom resources and layout adjustments.
• Contribute to discussion of individual targets during reviews.
• Lead small group activities to support learners as directed.

Responsibilities

• Help pupils develop independence in tasks.
• Supervise students during designated lunch/break times.
• Prepare and adapt classroom resources and layouts as needed.
• Contribute to reviews by discussing individual targets.
• Lead small group sessions to reinforce learning objectives.

Hours: 32 hours per week (Mon-Fri, 30 minutes lunch)

Staff are expected to work throughout mainstream school supporting class teachers where required to include SEN children. We wish to appoint a enthusiastic, passionate and motivated individual who loves working with young children, to enable them to thrive.

• Must have an in-depth knowledge of child development
• Have previous experience of working with young children in an educational setting
• Well motivated and bring new ideas to help enrich the lives of young children
• Communicate with parents and stakeholders
• An understanding of Child Protection and Safeguarding
• Experience of delivering Interventions, plan and deliver 1:1 and small group activities
• To work closely with team members to support the set-up of individual schedules and work systems.
• To help the pupil work as independently as possible.
• To help supervise students at designated lunch or break times as directed by the SENCo.
• To help in the preparation and organisation of classroom resources including making adjustments in classroom layout when needed for the child.
• To contribute to discussion of individual targets in the process of reviews.
• To lead small group activities within a class, as directed by the teacher, to support students.
