Job summary

Parkland Primary School South Wigston is seeking a Learning Support Assistant to join our caring teaching team. You will support learning, assist individuals and groups, and contribute to a positive, inclusive classroom environment.

The role operates 30 hours per week, 39 weeks per year, on a fixed-term contract for the 2026/2027 academic year, with a starting salary aligned with Grade 5 pay points 7–8. The successful candidate will foster pupil wellbeing and achievement.

Qualifications

  • NVQ Level 2 in Supporting Teaching and Learning or equivalent.
  • Recent/previous experience supporting teaching and learning in a school setting.
  • Strong understanding of child protection and health & safety procedures.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to motivate and engage students.

Responsibilities

  • Support teachers in preparing and delivering engaging lessons.
  • Assist individuals and small groups with learning activities.
  • Provide feedback on pupil engagement and progress.
  • Encourage positive behaviour and emotional development.
  • Prepare and use learning materials, including ICT resources.
  • Help create stimulating classroom displays.

Learning Support Assistant

Parkland Primary School South Wigston

Salary: Grade 5 Pay Point 7-8 (£25,191 - £25,590 per annum, approximate starting salary of £17,475)

Hours: 30 hours, 39 weeks per year

Contract Type: Fixed Term for academic year 2026/2027

Working pattern: Monday to Friday, 08:40am to 03:10pm with 30 min lunch break

What We Are Looking For
  • Qualifications: NVQ Level 2 in Supporting Teaching and Learning (or equivalent) OR ability to meet STL Level 2 National Occupational Standards.
  • Experience: Previous experience supporting teaching and learning in a school setting.
  • Skills & Knowledge:
    • Understanding of child protection and health & safety procedures.
    • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
    • Ability to motivate and engage students.
