Job summary

Crookhey Hall School in Lancaster is seeking a Learning Support Assistant to help students overcome barriers, build confidence and achieve outcomes. You will be a trusted adult, providing encouragement, stability and support across daily learning and development activities.

The role is not limited to classroom work; you may assist in 1:1 or small-group sessions, fostering independence and personal growth for pupils aged 10–17 in a SEMH setting.

Qualifications

• GCSE English and Maths, or equivalent required.
• A caring, patient and positive approach to supporting young people.
• The resilience to remain calm and consistent when situations become challenging.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
• Reliability, professionalism and an understanding of confidentiality.
• A willingness to learn, develop and adapt your approach around individual pupil needs.
• A genuine commitment to helping every young person achieve their potential.
• Driving Licence required.

Responsibilities

• Supporting students in class, in small groups and on a 1:1 basis to help them achieve their individual goals.
• Building positive, trusting relationships that help students feel safe, valued and ready to learn.
• Working alongside teachers and specialists to deliver personalised support and learning programmes.
• Encouraging independence, confidence, communication skills and personal development.
• Providing calm, consistent support during challenging situations and helping students regulate emotions.
• Supporting educational visits, enrichment activities and learning beyond the classroom.
• Celebrating progress and helping create a positive environment where every student can succeed.
