Job summary

Victoria Primary Academy in Wellingborough is seeking a dedicated Learning Support Assistant (SEND) to work with pupils with additional needs. You will support teachers, deliver individual or small-group sessions, and help maintain a nurturing, inclusive classroom.

The role runs 30 hours 50 minutes per week for 39 weeks per year (term time + 5 days) with a base salary on the NJC Scale and an actual salary range published. A positive, collaborative team environment is offered.

Qualifications

  • Level 2 English and Maths qualifications are essential.
  • NVQ Level 2 (or equivalent) in a relevant subject is essential.
  • Basic IT knowledge including Word processing and Excel is expected.
  • Experience delivering learning support for pupils with additional needs is preferred.
  • Understanding SEN structures in a school setting is advantageous.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with day-to-day requirements of individual children with special needs.
  • Support teaching staff to enable pupils to achieve their potential.
  • Deliver small group or individual sessions as required.
  • Maintain calm, inclusive classroom environments and promote positive behaviour.

Learning Support Assistant (SEND Support)
Victoria Primary Academy, Wellingborough, Northants
NJC Scale Point 3 to 4 (£24,796 to £25,185 FTE)
(actual salary £17,838 to £18,118 per annum - pay award pending)
30 hours 50 mins per week, 39 weeks per year (term time + 5 days)

Victoria Primary Academy are looking to recruit a dedicated, enthusiastic and reliable Learning Support Assistant, to support teachers to enable identified pupils to achieve their full potential. This is a key role within our school - we have a number of children who have a range of additional needs and we pride ourselves on our strong commitment to inclusion. Supporting children with additional needs to learn alongside their peers and make good or better progress is a key aim for us and this role is crucial in enabling the school to meet this. To be able to fulfil this role you will need a strong personal ethos of integrity, patience, resilience and commitment.

The role would be assisting with day to day requirements of individual children with special needs, this could be in a number of year groups depending on candidate's previous experience and expertise.

Qualifications
  • Level 2 (or equivalent) qualifications in English and Mathematics essential
  • NVQ Level 2 (or equivalent) in a relevant subject essential
Experience
  • An understanding of the structures and routines of an SEN department in a secondary comprehensive school.
  • Demonstrated experience of delivering individual or small group sessions as a Learning Assistant
  • Demonstrated experience of assisting teaching in the classroom as a Learning Assistant
Personal Attributes
  • Physically fit to set out and move equipment if necessary, and lift pupils with physical disabilities using equipment provided (eg hoist) essential
  • Good interpersonal skills in order to develop positive working relationships with pupils and staff. essential
  • Reliability essential
  • Ability to work using own initiative, to be pro-active and work as part of a team. essential
  • Reliable in order to maintain the consistency of expectations and standards. essential
