Job summary

Orchard School Bristol is seeking a dedicated role to provide guidance and personal support for students within the learning environment. The post involves working with teachers and the SENDCo to ensure safe access to the curriculum and high levels of engagement across learners.

The role requires fluency in spoken English and safeguarding clearance. It offers full‑time hours, a fixed term until 31 August 2027, and opportunities for professional development and DBS processing.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and provide support for individual or small groups of students inside and outside the classroom to enable safe access and full participation.
  • Collaborate with teachers and SENDCo to identify support and monitor progress for all students.
  • Set high expectations to promote self-esteem and independence.
  • Create personalised learning plans and assist with EHCPs and other SEND documentation.
  • Plan and prepare resources and study interventions for students.
  • Develop stimulating learning resources to meet learners' additional needs.
  • Implement high‑quality study interventions such as Literacy, Numeracy, Emotional Literacy and mentoring.
  • Assess students' work, record progress and provide feedback with next steps.
  • Report on development and progress to teachers, SENDCo, senior staff, parents and SEND professionals.

Job description

Grade: BG7 N8-11 £26,824 - £28,142 FTE (£23,458.07 - £24,610.69 Actual Salary)

Contract: Full time 37 Hours a week / Fixed term until 31st of August 2027

Hours: 8:00am-4:00pm Monday to Thursday and 8:00am-3:30pm Friday

Closing date: 25th of September 2026 9:00am

Purpose:

To provide guidance, academic and personal support for students in their learning environment, enabling students to access the curriculum fully, engage completely with their learning and achieve their full potential.

Duties (further details in the attached application pack):
  • Supervise and provide support for individual/small groups of students inside and outside the classroom to enable them to safely access and fully participate in activities
  • Work collaboratively with teachers and the SENDCo to ensure effective identification, support and progress for all students
  • Set challenging and demanding expectations of all learners which promote self-esteem and independence
  • Create personalised learning plans, and assist with the development of Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs), and other SEND/whole school student documentation, as requested
  • Plan and prepare resources and study interventions for students
  • Create stimulating learning resources which meet the additional needs of learners and support them to engage fully in activities
  • Effectively implement high-quality study interventions and initiatives with individuals/groups, such as Literacy, Numeracy, Emotional Literacy, EAL, social skills, mentoring and other interventions as required
  • Undertake structured assessment of students' work, recording and evaluating achievement and progress in the interventions, providing feedback to students, and identifying next steps
  • Report on the development, progress and attainment of students to stakeholders (teachers, SENDCo, senior staff , parents, carers and SEND professionals)

Fluency Duty
