Job summary

Alton Park Junior School, part of The Sigma Trust, is seeking a dedicated Behaviour Support Worker to implement effective behaviour strategies across the school. You will support pupils during challenging moments and help create a safe, engaging learning environment during term-time (27.5 hours/week, 38 weeks/year).

The role offers training, including a six module course, and access to TES and NASEN online training to build classroom practice. Interviews on 15th October 2026.

Qualifications

• Experience working with children in a school or similar setting.
• Ability to demonstrate a range of effective behaviour strategies and support inclusion for pupils with emotional, behavioural or SEMH needs.

Responsibilities

• Implement whole-school behaviour policies and procedures and provide direct support with managing challenging behaviour.
• Provide targeted interventions for pupils with behavioural difficulties, including one-to-one and small group support.
• Liaise with senior leaders, class teachers and parents regarding pupil behaviour and progress.
• Promote restorative approaches to conflict resolution and support pupils’ personal and social growth.
• Supervise and support pupils who may be isolated from lessons and ensure they complete work.
• Maintain accurate records and reports on behaviour incidents and interventions.

Training will be provided, including a six module course to build expert classroom practice, including effective questioning, checking for understanding, and delivering actionable feedback. You will also have access to online training from TES and NASEN.

• Start Date: ASAP (subject to satisfactory pre‑employment checks)
• Contract Type: Permanent
• Working Hours: 27.5 hours per week, 38 weeks per year (term time only)
• Working Pattern: 8:45am - 3:15pm Monday to Friday

A Day in the Life:

You’ll be responsible for bringing your passion and expertise to the following areas:

• Maintaining highly accurate records and reports on behaviour incidents and interventions.

What We’re Looking For:

You are the perfect fit for our team if you have:

• Successful experience working with children in a school or similar setting.
• The ability to demonstrate a range of effective behaviour strategies and confidently support the inclusion of pupils with emotional, behavioural or SEMH needs in a mainstream setting.
• Outstanding communication skills with the ability to build respectful, trusting relationships and interact positively with pupils, parents and colleagues.
• A strong working knowledge of child protection, safeguarding, and inclusion policies.
