Job summary

Whitby School is looking for a Youth Worker or Primary School KS2 Teaching Assistant to support pupils and help them access learning with teacher guidance.

You will work with small groups and individuals, across the school as needed, helping students grow in confidence and achieve learning outcomes in a supportive environment.

Qualifications

• Relevant experience working with children in a learning environment.
• Experience with students with additional learning needs is an advantage.
• Good literacy, numeracy and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

• Support pre-planned learning activities as directed by the teacher.
• Provide in-class, small group, and one-to-one support for students.
• Assist with monitoring and recording learning, behaviour and progress.
• Support pupils with SEN through delivery of learning programmes.
• Help enable access to education as indicated by EHCPs.

In this role, you'll be the hero for students who need a little extra help. You will help pupils access learning and develop their understanding, supporting them to complete tasks themselves wherever possible.

You'll work closely with small groups and individual students, guided by our amazing class teachers and leadership team. It's all about creating a supportive and dynamic learning environment where every student can thrive. This role offers great variety and balance - you may work across school as needed, or provide targeted regular support to specific pupils, allowing you to see how they grow and thrive.

Key Duties

• Support pre-planned learning activities as directed by the teacher.
• Provide in-class, small group, and one-to-one, support for students, under the direction of senior staff.
• Provide insight and input to allow the class teacher to monitor and record learning, behaviour, participation, progress and achievement.
• Support pupils with special educational needs through assisting with the delivery of specific learning programmes.
• Support the facilitation of pupils' access to educational provision as indicated by their Education, Health and Care Plan.

You will have:

• Experience appropriate to working with children in a learning environment.
• Have experience of supporting and working with students with a range of additional learning needs.
• Good literacy, numeracy and interpersonal skills.
• Relevant NVQ Level 2 qualification or equivalent i.e. English and maths skills at level 2 / GCSE pass (Supporting teaching & learning specific qualifications are not essential but may be an advantage)
