Job summary

Havering Adult College is seeking enthusiastic Sessional Learning Support Assistants to help learners with disabilities and learning difficulties achieve their goals. You will provide tailored classroom and enrichment support, promote independence and inclusion, and work with staff to enable learners to reach their learning objectives.

Role requires Level 2 Literacy and Numeracy, strong communication, and a flexible approach to daytime, evening and weekend sessions within an inclusive education

Qualifications

• Level 2 Literacy and Numeracy qualifications.
• Experience in post-compulsory education or supporting individuals with diverse learning needs.
• Commitment to equality, inclusion and learner success.
• Willingness to undertake safeguarding training.

Responsibilities

• Support identified learners to complete learning activities and tasks using provided resources.
• Assist learners with full participation in lessons and enrichment activities inside and outside the classroom.
• Contribute to lesson preparation and evaluation with teaching staff.
• Support induction and help learners follow college policies.
• Promote learner independence, confidence and inclusion.
• Collaborate with teachers and support staff to help learners meet objectives.
• Maintain a professional, respectful and supportive learning environment.

We are looking for enthusiastic and supportive Sessional Learning Support Assistants to join Havering Adult College and work alongside our teaching teams to support learners, with disabilities, learning difficulties and medical conditions to achieve their goals.

This rewarding role offers the opportunity to make a positive difference to learners’ education experiences by providing tailored support within the classroom and during enrichment activities, helping them participate fully and develop confidence and independence.

What you will be doing:

• Supporting identified learners to complete learning activities and classroom tasks using resources provided

The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong understanding of Equality, Diversity and Inclusion and have a clear appreciation of safeguarding responsibilities when working with adults, young people, and vulnerable learners.

About You

The successful candidate should meet the following essential criteria:

• Level 2 Literacy and Numeracy qualifications
• Experience within a post-compulsory educational environment or supporting individuals with diverse learning needs
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• A flexible and adaptable approach to supporting learners
• Ability to build positive relationships with learners, staff, and stakeholders
• Strong organisational and time management skills
• Commitment to equality, inclusion, and learner success
• Willingness to undertake relevant professional development and safeguarding training
• Appropriate Learning Support Assistant qualification, or willingness to achieve one within one year of appointment
• Ability to work daytime, evening and weekend sessions as required
