Job summary

Engage Education are currently recruiting Learning Support Assistants for schools across Rochdale. You will work closely with teachers and pastoral staff to support pupils with academic and personal development.

The role involves 1:1 and small-group support, helping pupils with SEN and SEMH, autism, ADHD, and behavioural needs, and assisting with EHCP outcomes. The position is full-time and long-term, starting September 2026, with PAYE employment.

Qualifications

• Experience in schools or SEN settings.
• Experience in teaching, learning support, youth work, or mentoring.
• Calm, patient, and confident with challenging behaviour.
• Previous SEN experience desirable but not essential.

The Role

As a Learning Support Assistant, you will work closely with teachers and pastoral staff to support pupils both academically and personally.

• Supporting pupils with SEN and additional learning needs
• Helping students access personalised learning activities
• Supporting pupils with SEMH, autism, ADHD and behavioural needs
• Building positive and trusting relationships with students
• Encouraging confidence, independence and resilience
• Supporting positive behaviour and emotional regulation
• Working alongside teachers, SENCOs and pastoral teams
• Supporting individual education plans and EHCP outcomes

About You

We welcome applications from candidates with experience in:

• Schools or SEN settings
• Teaching or Learning Support
• Youth work or mentoring
• Sports coaching
• Residential or care work
• Behaviour support
• Working with children or young people

You should be calm, patient, resilient and confident when supporting pupils who may display challenging behaviour.

Previous SEN experience is desirable but not essential — relevant experience working with children, young people or vulnerable individuals will be considered.
