Job summary

Maylandsea Primary School is seeking a learning support assistant to join a supportive team working under class teachers. The successful candidate will assist in lessons, support a pupil with ASD/ADHD, and help deliver interventions with a calm, patient approach.

A DBS check and references are required, with a focus on safeguarding and creating a nurturing learning environment. The role is term-time only, 10 hours per week (2 hours daily, Monday to Friday, 13:15–15:15).

Qualifications

• Experience as an LSA is desirable but not essential.
• Good numeracy and literacy (GCSE or equivalent) required or desirable.
• An enhanced DBS check and references will be required.
• Ability to support in lessons and run interventions with children with ASD/ADHD.

Responsibilities

• Support a child with ASD/ADHD in lessons and interventions.

Maylandsea Primary School is part of Quantum Multi-Academy Trust and is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic, reliable and capable learning support assistant who will have a positive impact on the children that they work with. Previous experience is highly desirable but not essential. You will be joining a team of hard working, friendly and adaptable LSAs working under the direction of class teachers supporting in lessons and running interventions.

We are seeking a calm, patient, and committed candidate to provide dedicated support for a child with ASD and ADHD, presenting with complex social, emotional, communication, and learning needs. The child requires a high level of adult reassurance, alongside a consistent, nurturing approach to support emotional regulation, engagement in learning, and overall wellbeing.

The successful candidate will be able to provide clear routines, firm but compassionate boundaries, and skilled co-regulation, particularly during transitions, periods of uncertainty, or times of heightened anxiety. The role will also include providing intimate care; therefore, sensitivity, professionalism, and a strong commitment to maintaining the child’s dignity are essential.

The role involves providing close support to help the child maintain attention, engage with learning tasks, and develop independence. The successful candidate will support emotional regulation, social interaction, and sensory needs, using structured strategies and movement breaks where appropriate. You will play a key role in creating a predictable, nurturing, and emotionally safe learning environment in which the child can build confidence and thrive.

Suitable candidates will be able to interact with a wide range of children and use their own interpersonal skills to encourage the most from the children. Supporting groups of pupils and individuals including those with additional needs.

Also be able to work as part of a team and able to liaise with other members of staff. The successful applicant will be organised with good communication skills, able to demonstrate initiative and flexibility, and understand the professional nature of the role.

Together with the above attributes, a good standard of English and mathematics is required.

Qualifications: good numeracy and literacy skills – (GCSE or equivalent in English and maths are highly desirable).
