Job summary

Long Term Futures is recruiting a Learning Support Assistant for a friendly secondary school and sixth form in Wandsworth. You will support students across KS3, KS4 and Sixth Form, delivering 1:1 and small-group interventions to help learners overcome barriers to progress.

You will work with pupils with ASC, ADHD, dyslexia, speech and language needs, and mild SEMH needs, coordinating with teachers and SEN staff to foster inclusive learning and positive outcomes.

Qualifications

• Experience as Learning Support/Teaching Assistant roles, ideally in secondary education.
• DBS enhanced with Update Service or willingness to apply.
• Able to work with pupils with diverse additional needs and behavioural challenges.

Responsibilities

• Support students during lessons across KS3, KS4 and Sixth Form.
• Lead focused one-to-one sessions and small-group interventions.
• Assist students with additional needs such as ASC, ADHD, dyslexia, speech and language difficulties, and mild SEMH needs.
• Adjust classroom materials and activities to suit individual learning requirements.

• Contribute to personalised learning programmes and EHC plans where required.
• Observe student engagement and share feedback with teaching staff.

Location: Wandsworth, South West London
Daily Rate: £108.68-£115
Contract: Full-time, temporary-to-permanent
Start: September 2026 or as soon as possible
Accessible from: Merton, Lambeth, Kingston, Richmond, Sutton, Croydon, Putney, Clapham and other areas across South West London.

Long Term Futures is seeking a dependable and motivated Learning Support Assistant for a friendly secondary school and sixth form in Wandsworth.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is passionate about supporting young people and wants to help students become more confident, independent learners. You will work with pupils across Key Stages 3 and 4, as well as Post-16, providing practical and academic support within the classroom.

Working alongside teachers, the SENCO and pastoral colleagues, you will help students with a variety of additional needs participate fully in lessons, overcome barriers to learning and make meaningful academic and personal progress.

Your Responsibilities

• Support students during lessons across KS3, KS4 and Sixth Form.

• Assist young people with additional needs such as Autism (ASC), ADHD, dyslexia, speech and language difficulties, and mild social, emotional and mental health needs.
• Adjust classroom materials and activities to suit individual learning requirements.
• Help students strengthen their confidence, organisation and independent study skills.
• Work collaboratively with teachers, pastoral teams and the SENCO to apply appropriate support strategies.
• Contribute to personalised learning programmes and the implementation of Education, Health and Care Plans where required.
• Observe students' engagement and development, sharing useful feedback with teaching staff.
• Reinforce positive behaviour and help maintain a calm, welcoming and inclusive school environment.
• Develop trusted professional relationships that support students' social, emotional and academic growth.

About You

We would like to hear from applicants who:

• Have worked as a Learning Support Assistant, Teaching Assistant, SEN Teaching Assistant, Behaviour Mentor, Cover Supervisor or in a comparable education or youth-support position.
• Ideally have experience working with secondary-aged pupils.
• Understand special educational needs and the principles of inclusive education.
• Communicate confidently and can form positive working relationships with students and colleagues.
• Are patient, adaptable, proactive and able to respond calmly to different situations.
• Are organised and comfortable contributing to a multidisciplinary team.
• Have a genuine commitment to education and improving outcomes for young people.
• Hold an enhanced DBS registered with the Update Service or are willing to apply for one.
