Job description

ALN Teaching Assistant

Ebbw Vale | Full-Time & Part-Time Opportunities | Immediate Start Available

Not every young person learns in the same way.

Some need an educator who can spot when they're struggling before they say a word. Someone who can break down barriers, build confidence, earn trust and celebrate the small wins that eventually become big achievements.

That's where you come in.

Teaching Personnel is looking for compassionate, resilient and driven individuals to support pupils with Additional Learning Needs (ALN). You don't necessarily need classroom experience. What matters most is your ability to connect with people, remain calm under pressure and help others reach their potential.

Whether you've worked in care, support work, youth work, coaching, residential settings, healthcare, customer service, mentoring or another people‑focused role, your experience could be exactly what a pupil needs to succeed.

This isn't a role where you'll simply supervise. You'll become a trusted adult, a positive role model and a key part of a young person's educational journey.

The Role

You'll support pupils with a variety of additional learning needs, which may include:

  • Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
  • ADHD
  • Social, Emotional and Mental Health Needs (SEMH)
  • Moderate and Severe Learning Difficulties

Working alongside teachers and support staff, you'll:

  • Provide tailored 1:1 and small group support.
  • Help pupils engage with learning and develop confidence.
  • Support emotional regulation and positive behaviour strategies.
  • Build meaningful relationships with pupils who may struggle to trust adults.
  • Encourage communication, independence and social development.
  • Create a safe, inclusive and supportive learning environment.
Who Would Thrive In This Role?

We're particularly interested in hearing from people with backgrounds in:

  • Care and support work
  • Residential children's services
  • Youth work
  • Mental health support
  • Coaching and sports leadership
  • Healthcare roles
  • Community work
  • Customer‑facing roles where patience, resilience and communication are essential

If you're empathetic, adaptable and genuinely want to make a difference, we'd love to hear from you.

Why Teaching Personnel?

Teaching Personnel is the UK's leading education recruitment agency, supporting schools and education professionals since 1996.

When you join us, you'll receive:

  • Free CPD and specialist ALN training
  • Flexible full-time and part-time opportunities
  • Competitive weekly pay
  • A dedicated consultant supporting you every step of the way
  • Access to long-term and permanent school opportunities
  • A referral scheme for recommending friends and colleagues
What You'll Need
  • A positive and proactive attitude
  • Two professional references
  • A DBS certificate, or willingness to obtain one
  • EWC registration, or willingness to register (support provided)
Ready for Something More Rewarding?

If you're looking for a role where no two days are the same, where your impact is visible, and where the right support from you could completely change a young person's school experience, we'd love to hear from you.
